Welp, finger surgery is on for this Friday.

Post by marshallnoise »

Lots of lurking, no offensive, right-wing posts from me. No discussions of tonal "grind" and no more talks of bass pedals for live use for a while.

Diagnosed with diffuse flexor tenosynovitis in my left hand middle finger. Operation is to slice open the finger from the first joint in the palm all the way to the last knuckle in a zig zag pattern, cut open the tendon sheath and remove the synovic fluid that is either infected or built up from some trauma causing the inflammation.

Worst part is that no puncture wound is present and I don't recall smashing the shit out of it on anything. I guess that shit just happens.

Pity party over.

I had flexor tendinitis (AKA trigger finger) surgery 18 months ago. Granted, yours is slightly more invasive, but they are fairly similar, and I was playing guitar again (gingerly) in 4-5 days. The tendon and tendon sheath felt great right away; it was the incision that took the longest to heal.

Best of luck for a speedy recovery. :thu:

Oh, and "thanks, Obama" or something. ;)

Thanks fellas! They are going to do a trigger release while in there too. That is great news though and I remember you mentioning this in my first inquiry thread. It will be great to get the mobility back. With the size of my hand, I bet he is going to have to do about 10" of incisions so yeah, that healing is what I am slightly dreading. Extremities are VERY difficult to get good blood flow.

What sucks is that they are going to have to run 4 cultures afterward since this surgery is a clean up of the tendon sheath AND a biopsy surgery all in the same run. If it is an infectious disease, then I am in for a lot of intensive antibiotic treatments.

Much appreciated gents!

There are some pretty gnarly videos of hand tendon surgery on YouTube, if you really want to feel faint. :cop:

I've had my fair share, dealing with back problems for the past 1-1/2 years, leading up to surgery of my own this past January.

Thanks, but no thanks :D
