Iron Man was a pretty good read

Post by Axe »

It's no War and Peace but it contains plenty of good anecdotes and shows exactly how hard Tony worked to keep Sabbath together -- in one form or another -- through a lot of obstacles.

Funniest anecdote is when he talks about Ronnie's lyrics. It fell upon Tony to tell him to "give it a rest with the fucking rainbows." :D

If you're a Black Sabbath fan -- or a fan of rock biographies in general -- I'd recommend it. He does tend to gloss over a lot of things I would have loved more detail on and he jumps around in time too much, but it's still a fun read.

Does it say anything about the reunion and the Bill Ward situation?

No, it was published before that. He manages to show what a merry-go-round the personnel changes were though. I'm amazed he could keep track of them.

For the most part I liked it too. The quality of the writing was a bit spotty and almost caveman-like at times but it appeared to be fairly straight forward, unlike the Ass Frehley bio.

Inorite? I was surprised a journalist helped him write it. It reads as more of a journal than an autobiography. If it was only Tony's name on it, I would have said, "Not bad for a guitar player." :D

Just started "I Am Ozzy"

The first five pages of the ebook edition are hilarious.....

They said I would never write this book.

Well, fuck 'em -- 'cos here it is.

All I have to do now is remember something...

Bollocks, I can't remember anything.

Oh, apart from this..."

The shark story was awesome. Man, Tony was a prankster. I would have had a breakdown from always being on edge, wondering what was coming next.

Reading it right now.

Wow, saying its poorly written is an amazing understatement. As a Sabbath & Iommi fanboi, I'm tearing through it, but anyone who isn't a fan, its completely inaccessible.

The stories are great, but they're told in such a way that, especially around the 90s, you lose all sense of when things were happening.

I can't imagine what it would've looked like had he not had some help with it.

But as far as content, I love it. Tony worked his ass off and he doesn't seem to shy away from admitting he did some crappy things to folks to keep the band going.

But man, I really really wish I could have been put into some cohesive narrative. Its a really breezy read as the chapters are short, but I sometimes get a bit twitchy at the amateurishness of it.

But its about Iommi and Sabbath, BY Iommi!

I preferred the film adaptation. I did find it odd that they changed Iommi's last name to Stark though, and I found the amount of robot related violence to be much higher than expected. Gwyneth Paltrow was great as Ozzy though.
