The Expendables 2 7/10. I liked it, Stallone hasn't really let me down with his last few films.

Pacific Rim 8/10 Pretty good, very predictable.

The Conjuring...I dunno...7/10?

I really liked it, although I tried extra hard to get into it. Some of the shots had an old-school feel which I enjoyed. Some good scenes...one of them reaaaally got to me and the rest of the audience

Only God Forgives

One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Fucking awful. ZERO substance. No character development. Ryan Gosling has about 6 lines in the whole movie. Now I see why people walked out of it at the festivals.

I would say The Conjuring is more a 6-6.5/10. I've seen it a thousand times before, sometimes just as well made. The one bright spot is the dad doesn't play the usual horror movie dickhole. As the wife said on the way out of the theater, "it's like Amityville light." There's a few differences, but it's very similar. Which means it's an enjoyable, although extremely current Hollywood "let's remake it and name it something different and toss in a couple things from other popular stories" movie.

That Dumb & Dumber deal has been on again/off again so many times I'm shocked they haven't given up. Last I heard it was back off. Maybe they finally gave up on getting Carrey and Daniels back and are going with the second string again? That seemed to always be the holdup in the past.

sharknado.

fucking hell. as a movie: 0/10. as completely laughable horsehit (intentionally written and directed as laughable horseshit)?: 10/10

i have to see pacrim and conjuring, because the reviews are so polarizing.

well?

Saw the Conjuring this weekend. I have been on a movie trip as of late and I am not sure why as I usually wait till it's Redbox time :cop:

I will agree with Murdoch on this one. It is a very well made ghost story. If you go in expecting new worlds of terror opening before your very eyes; don't waste your time. If you are cool with a traditional ghost story/possession direction, then the Conjuring is a good choice. I enjoyed the period piece aspect as it definitely harkened back to Exorcist/Rosemary's Baby school of thought. The actors all did a great job and the scares were well timed and legitimate. I also think James Wan is a great gateway horror director. You see his stuff and it gets you interested in seeing more that the horror genre has to offer. Films don't necessarily have to be ground breaking to be enjoyable. In my world, at least.

The thing with ghost stories is it always comes back to the supernatural. The ghosts always manifest in the physical world, but end up as essentially a puff of smoke when they are gone/vanquished/exorcised. That to me removes some of the scariness. Slasher films aren't always the most frightening, but the tangible threat from a flesh and blood killer gives a gritty, terrorizing fear that can't be duplicated in a ghost story setting.

Is this anything like Drive? Gosling had very few lines in it but it was awesome.

I have the opposite opinion :o :D When it's something supernatural it's like you can't do anything about it and you can't fight it

Trailer Park Boys: The Movie - 7/10
I am a huge fan of the TV show and it was great to see the boys in action again. The movie is pretty funny but mostly just a mashup of various episodes of the TV show with a bit of a twist thrown in here and there.

I watched Fast & Furious 6 last night. It was pretty fucking mind numbingly retared and like call F&F movies, completely disregards the laws of physics.

Watched the Incredible Burt Wonderstone as well and that was also awful. But still funny, in a terrible sort of way.

So you joined the 15 other people who've seen that movie?

The previews looked amazingly bad. :freak:

F&F 6 looked terrible, but in a good silly stupid way. I'll get around to seeing that one sooner or later.

Jim Carrey needs to get off his meds and do a third Ace Ventura. Saw him in a trailer for Kick-Ass 2 and man his character did not seem funny.

Count me in as 17th :)

It was atrocious, yet going in a better direction than the last 27 bazillion Jim Carrey movies that I hated. To give you an idea, the last JC movies I liked were Eternal Sunshine and Truman Show. The penguin movie was ok as far as a movie you could watch with your younger kids. He would do good to return to the classic dumb humour that he did so well when he first came on the scene. The problem is that I am not sure if he could find a writer to craft that kind of awesome stupidity. A true Dumb and Dumber sequel would be awesome if the Farrellys could write a killer script.

Honestly, the only JC movies I ever liked were the ones where he wasn't acting like a moron. Now, some of those were terrible as well, but so much better than the straight up dumb shit he used to do. It was the whole "sketch comedy movie" problem. What's hilarious in small doses gets annoying as fuck 99.9% of the time in a 90 minute movie.

True. It could be for me that he was good in the 90s and his time is just passed for my comedy tastes. Stupid humor does not age well.

The most redeeming quality of Burt Wonderstone was that Jim ripped on Chris Angel so hard... Brainraped!

Josie & The Pussycats: 7/10 - way better than it had any right to be. The music industry ripping was hilarious and yet sometimes accurate.

Really loved the plot and the monster and the book and all that stuff. I wouldn't mind seeing a few more versions made of it, with the same demon book

First Daughter- Now, you might ask, why am I watching a Katie Holmes teen romcom from 2004? I'll tell you why, because wifey has terrible taste in movies.

4/10. It wasn't offensively bad, it was just so bland, vanilla, and utterly uninteresting I still don't know why it was ever made. It was like, they couldn't decide who to market it towards, did they want teen girls, adult women, preteens to watch this? Apparently they went for the preteen and mom demo because nothing of interest happens in the movie.

I think they went for "sweet" and ended up with "saccharine."

Ok, that's more than enough review for this dud of a movie.

Edit: Apparently it was written by Jerry O'Connell, yes, the actor and its budget was 20 mil....of which it made half back at the box office. It has an 8% rotten tomatoes rating and 4.7 on IMDB.

Yeah, but their ratings are weird. The Room has like 33%! I kind of want to see Ballistic: Eks vs. Sever just based on the fact that it has 0% with 108 reviews, which means no one so much as said "Yeah, that one shot was kinda well framed" in their entire review. It's the worst scored movie out of the most reviews on there.

I just saw an ad for some schlocky horror flick called "You're next" or something like that and they're using Perfect Day by Lou Reed in the trailer. You really can't use that song ever unless you're making a film where it fits the scene and feel better than Trainspotting, and you pretty much aren't doing that ever. Why not just put a guy holding a sign that says "Hey, remember that way better movie? Why don't you just watch that?"
