I am kind of pissed off right now.
Since I'm taking next week off while my kids are in town, I just checked to see how much vacation time that will leave me with afterwards. That's when I realized that since my anniversary of hire is the beginning of July, and I can only carry over a certain amount of PTO each year, I just lost two full days of paid vacation time. Poof. Gone. Time I could have spent, if not going anywhere exotic, at least getting paid to stay home and water the garden.
So that's pretty frustrating. And much like stubbing your toe or biting the inside of your mouth, it sucks and there's nobody to yell at but mydamnself. I should have been better informed on the policy, and I should have paid closer attention to how much PTO I was socking away by never calling in sick. :P

if you're in a small enough company, you can try asking for it. If you're valuable, they'll bend the rules.

Re: FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Now, to temper my complaint...
- It's really nobody's damn fault but mine. This really is like stubbing your toe.
- Part of the problem is that my company is so generous with paid holidays and PTO that I actually have trouble managing to take enough time off to keep it from maxing out.
- They aren't going to reverse it for me. I can't speak to how valuable I am, but I am one of the clinic directors, and I'd feel like a dick taking a mulligan on a rule that I might at any moment have to enforce on one of my employees.

That Sux dude. The company I used to work for would send you a notice from Human Resources to advise you that you would lose some time.

Re: FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
I lose time almost every year.
I hear ya about the work load when you come back though.
But if it didn't build up - they really don't need you - do they??
