Ultimate sellout would be giving up your artistic integrity by allowing a blood sucking record label to turn you into a confused little girl...like Brittney Spears.

What's the issue? That bought like half my gear I acquired last year.
Mr. Burgundy is spot on there. It takes a lot longer to save up for a $1500 amp in $20 original band money increments.

Enjoy the gig.
+1
Getting paid > not gettin paid. People who accuse others of selling out are dumbasses that no one wants to hear them play. :lol

Re: Paid Cover Band Pickup Gig Tonight: Ultimate Sellout?
The only sellout that matters is at the front door of the venue...
I would do a cover band in a second. Mainly because you can learn everything on your own time and rehearsal would be just that, rehearsal. Plus less chance of drama about musical direction and who wants to be a rockstar. As long as it's stuff I love to play.

Win-win for me.
And if there is a tv mounted on the wall above the band you are golden.

Why is that considered selling out? How many people work jobs that they don't particularly care for?
At least if you're playing guitar (or whatever) in a band where you don't particularly care for the music, you're still making an income playing your instrument. As far as I'm concerned that's one step better than just outright working a job you don't care for in an industry you don't care for.

Paid Cover band gig > playing originals a hall show for a crowd of 20 high school kids (mostly made up of by other bands on the bill) who play screamtard punk, or cookie monster bullshit.
