Oh believe me I don't think Zimmerman is an angel by any means, nor should have escalated this ordeal to where it ended in someone dying. I do think the whole shebang was blown extremely out of proportion and if GZ was a "real" hispanic then this would have never seen the light of day since black on hispanic/hispanic on black crime happens every day in major metro areas. I couldn't agree more. My heart goes out to the family, and I know I would be heartbroken and full of rage if my son was killed and the man went free. I hope they find peace in the future, but I know it will not come fast or easy.

That being said, I think the jury came to the right decision. If the state had not caved to pressure and prosecuted for murder 2, and went for a manslaughter charge from the first, and if the state had been able to put forth a case that showed an alternate scenario for how the altercation occurred, then they might have succeeded with a manslaughter prosecution. However, they didn't, they didn't, and they didn't, and by going for the harder charge, maybe due to political/community pressure or maybe due to wanting a high-profile case and conviction padding their resumes, they gave themselves a nearly unwinnable case. Seriously, if this case had been a manslaughter case it would not have maintained the media circus it did, and that would have been better for the case, the community, and the families involved.
