I've always been a Marshall guy - love my JTM45 with pedals out front - and love the sounds of a cranked Marshall.

But I'm on the lookout for something from the Cold Cathode group - either a 5150, or Soldano Avenger to use for the modern metal high-gain sounds.

Whatever is going to sound either the fuzziest or the most like the amp is about to melt.

I have only seen The Anomaly since I've started posting in '08, and that dude's no imposter.

We'll have to settle with two people somewhat sharing the same username.

I can't pick one if its other peoples tones. Then its 100% whatever fits the song.

For myself I picked Marshall type. I've become a huge fan of a clean or slightly dirty Marshall-type amp slammed with a pedal. I also love the roar a cranked marshall puts out so...yeah, Marshalls.

Though I would kill to have a Vox I could crank til my ears bleed and pretend I'm Brian May.

If I COULD play metal, I'd pick either the Boogie or 5150 as I'm a big fan of late 90s/early 00s metal core and much of that is Boogie based though there was some cranked Marshall and 5150 use going on as well.
Main Guitars: Gibson SG Classic, Agile AL3100, Fender Blacktop Telecaster
Amps: ACC150 (x2), Peavey VTM120, JCM600, Peavey Bravo, Yamaha THR5
Cabs: Mesa Halfback 2x12, Peavey 1810, Randall RS125CX

Every one of them has their place, so I pick all. I couldn't imagine Master of Puppets on a plexi, just as I couldn't imagine AC/DC on a Vox. But, if you put a gun to my head, I would keep my Mark III. And then I would call the police.
Shit that I own:
Amps: Mesa Mark III Red Stripe; Peavey 5150; Peavey VTM 60; Budda SD18; Dr. Z Carmen Ghia; Boss Katana; Mesa 400+; Darkglass Microtubes 900; Genx-Benz G-Flex; Marshall 4x12 w/Greenbacks; Peavey 4x12 w/G12K-85's
Guitars/Basses: Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro; Gibson Les Paul Studio; Ibanez Prestige RGA121; Balaguer Hyperion; Schecter Custom Shop Traditional; Schecter C-1 Platinum; Homebrew Tele; Composit Acoustics GXi; Warwick FNA; Peavey Cirrus 5; Rickenbacker 4003

BleedingWhiskey wrote:I'm a fan of boosted Vox amps the most. I'm using a Jet City 100h into a Mojo 4x12 with Greendback speakers, but I would kill to run an old Rat pedal into a handwired AC-30 loaded with Celestion Blues :ympray:

On record, I love my AC30hw cranked then boosted, either with a biiiig clean boost or an SD-1, Rat etc set to low gain. Gives a great responsive lively sound with loads of snarl, loose low end, fuzzy chime and a sound that cuts brilliantly. I love the pick attack of that setup, it's like chalk.

But live as the only guitar player in my band it's a different story - that sound doesn't work so well for me when it's totally exposed, and I find myself fighting it for higher gain stuff. Plus it's very very loud! So on stage I prefer something smoother and bigger sounding. I loved my Tremoverb but had to sell it a couple of weeks ago, surprisingly though my AC100cph gets similar dark but tight overdrive (it's a little thicker in the low mids) through my open back vox 2x12 so I'm going to be trying that out for the first time at a gig this weekend.
