To be fair to Rhys Millen, this is the first year that the whole course has been paved, allowing for slick tires and the whole car to be set up with more downforce and lower center of gravity.

Loeb still crushed it though - there was a video from earlier in June for their testing and he was almost a minute slower than his run last weekend.

I'm not up on the history of the course but damn, the in car shots were scary quick!

I saw that and it was pretty badass. Seb Loeb is going to be driving a McLaren 12C GT3 in FIA GT series this year. Should kick most ass.

Pike's Peak trivia...

In July 1893, Katharine Lee Bates wrote the song "America the Beautiful", after having admired the view from the top of Pikes Peak. A plaque commemorating the words to the song was placed at the summit.

On July 17, 1913 William Wayne Brown drove his car, the Bear Cat, twenty miles to the summit. The ascent took 5 hours and 28 minutes.

In August 1976, Tom Miller pushed a peanut to the top of Pike's Peak using his nose. :eek: :eek: :freak: The ascent took him 4 days, 23 hours, 47 minutes and 3 seconds.
