PACIFIC RIM: I have my ticket, do you?

Post by nightflameauto »

FINALLY we're gonna get a giant robot movie that kicks some ass.

Every aspect of this movie has me nerd-raging. Got my ticket, and I'm going first showing in town. 10:00 PM next Thursday I'll be the 39 year old reverting to 12, getting ready to watch giant robots beat the piss out of giant monsters.

Who's nerding out with me?

I'm trying really hard to not invest myself in this movie. Must remain unbiasedly dispassionate.

Same here. I'm trying not to get too hyped up....but god, I want it to be amazing. Or at least good enough to feel amazing.

Plot, characters, pacing, dialogue, acting, art direction, cinematography...

What you have there is a good concept. What I'm looking for is a good film.

Also loved this one as a kid, although it may, quite literally, be the worst movie ever made. But I don't care.

You mean, all the things the Transformers abominations didn't have?

I have high hopes because I like Guillermo Del Toro. And given the subject matter, even if its merely "ok" it should be pretty awesome.

I'm as big a nerd as they come -- I used to watch Voltron and Battle of the Planets as a kid -- but for some reason I've felt a great big meh about this one since I saw the first trailer.

Really? I saw the trailers and was astounded at how blase I felt about it.

After seeing World War Z I've also decided that I hate 3D for these kinds of movies. You lose all the definition and texture which becomes all the more important when you have CG objects moving quickly. Granted, WWZ also suffered from generally bad cinematography.

I think this flick looks like an awesome summer movie, but I have to admit...

^is right on the money. Del Toro is usually awesome, so I will give him a pass on Mama

All of this. I have expectations for dramas that align with BrendanO's criteria, but a popcorn flick in July really only needs to keep me on the edge of my seat for an hour and half. This flick will do that by default from the looks of things; so it can only get better from there.

yeah i mean, i know this will be a mindless CGI jackoff festival. im paying specifically for that, if i go see it.
im not expecting anything better than 4th grade play level plot.
