Re: WGS speakers...
i also have a green beret and it is a great speaker. it's in my palomino 16 and was a huge upgrade over the stock generic celestion speaker. stock speaker had too much low end that was muddy and very shrill high end which i had installed a beam blocker which had helped considerably.
with the green beret installed, the highs are way sweeter and low end is tighter and more clearly defined. the reverb on that amp still sucks but one couldn't expect a speaker upgrade to have any affect on that. my malekko spring chicken reverb kills the amp's built in reverb.

I have a quad of the Veteran 30s in my Marshall 4x12 and they sound great to me.

Did you also try the Retros ? I understand they are very similar, but I'd like to know the differences between them.

Similar maybe... but not as similar as I thought. Similarities end at the overall mechanical properties and name. Once you A/B them, you hear quite a different grit to them. The Retros end up having more low end and a different high-mid character. They both have lots of treble, but the Vet30 is smoother in the presence area, while it is more aggressive in the upper mid area. The Retro has a smoother high mid transition, but is aggressive in the upper treble area.
Just depends on what you like... both sound fantastic.
Quick note on WGS overall, I love their speakers. To me they measure up quite well to the CElestions in terms of quality. What this tells me is that Celestion is grossly over-charging for their speakers.

Re: WGS speakers...
Would try the green beret reaper combo for sure. Love the et65 and vet 30s in my whitebox. Great speakers.
Re: WGS speakers...
I had some in a open back Vox 2x12 cab for use with my JTM45.
They really are nice speakers.
I stopped using them because I needed more clean headroom and volume.
Probably would have been perfect for cranking the amp, and riding the volume.

I like the Green Beret. I havent quite meshed with the ET-65's, but that is only because i expected them to sound like my Celestion G12-65's... which they are not even in the same league. Not worse, just a completely different speaker in every way.

I love the WGS speakers. I think the Et-65 might be one of my favorite speakers of all time. Would love to have a cab with them. The Vet 30 is great as are the Green Berets.

Re: WGS speakers...
I miss going down to the WGS speakers warehouse. They're located here in my home town. A friend of mine is friends with one of the guys who started u WGS. He introduced us. I used to get to go down there & try out speakers for them. I'd play thru them, & they'd write stuff down..then they'd pop in a new one & I'd try it. They'd ask what I liked & didnt like & write it all odown. Was always fun. He built me a quad of BL80's for cost. Later on, he gave me another quad of them. This woulda been back in 05 or so. Great guys who make great products. And right here at home to boot.

Re: WGS speakers...
WGS makes some good speakers, i like the et-65 as well as the green beret, thought the bl-80 was sort of bland and the vet30 had more in common with the 70/80 than anything else.

Re: WGS speakers...
Pretty much all of the speakers I've tried have been good.
In general, I would say that they are a little less icepicky and have a touch more low end than celestion.

Re: WGS speakers...
Not to highjack from the OP, but any suggestion what WGS speaker would be good for my Peavey Bravo combo? It currently has a Blue Marvel, so almost anything would sound better. I've heard K100s around good in it, but I don't really want to spend that much on a single speaker.
I know jack about speakers, and my ears aren't super sensitive, but holy cow does the Bravo sound 100x better played through my 2x12 than it does through that stock Blue Marvel.

The Green Beret might be a good choice.
I haven't played the Bravo, but it's an EL84 amp, right?
The Green Beret might smooth out any rattiness and add some fullness.

Yeah, its a late 80s/early 90s EL84 based high gainer and a pretty cool little amp.
The clips of the GB sound pretty nice. Heck for $69 new, pretty tough to go wrong.
