I'm still currently in Pittsburgh, which is full of evil, evil assholes. There was one section that drove me INSANE, where you have to find a hotel keycard to enter a door, then start a generator to power the card reader. Wasn't expecting to be swarmed by infected bastards and a goddamned BLOATER. This is a game where if you're expecting to kill every little thing, all you're going to end up doing is dying a LOT, and watching the bloater rip your eyes out and rip your lower jaw off. I ended up starting that gennie and hauling ass at a dead sprint to get to that door.

I knew starting up that generator was going to be a problem, but when all those fuckers turned up I pretty much just shat myself and ran like a girl back to that door with the card reader. I think I got off one shot, then as more started pouring in I realised how hard I was about to be fucked. :o The bloaters are actually a piece of piss to kill later on though, as long as you're not getting swarmed by other fuckers at the same time.

Marc G wrote:how many hours of game play does it have??

I got through it in a bit over 16 hours. That was with a bit of searching around, but as it turns out I found pretty much fuck all in terms of all the little hidden collectibles. So evidently there's a lot more searching to be done. Thoroughly enjoying the 2nd time through, and I imagine I'll be playing it still after I'm done with that. Most games I can't really be arsed playing through once, but this is definitely one of the few exceptions.

Murdoch wrote:Yeah, at least where I'm at right now, if you see a bloater, you run from it. You run as fast as you can. Otherwise, you're one dead bearded fuck.

Later on I walked into an area where there were two of them, and then a few assorted other fucks. Took 'em all out without them even knowing where I was. :hi5: There are two weapons that really fuck their shit up pretty easily. If you're getting swarmed by infected at the same time though, you're still fucked.

The first bloater you come across, 2nd time through the game I put a few attempts into beating him to death with the baseball bat. Not sure it's possible, coz when you get him closer to death and he gets a bit angrier, he just kills you with one hit any time you get close enough to hit him. :idk:

I want to pick a copy of this game up, but I can't afford it for a while. Gear first, games later.

I didn't get to play yesterday, but just arrived at the woods. The subway station had me lost for a bit when Ellie said she couldn't swim, I wasn't sure what to do, so I looked around for about 30 minutes for a way to get her across...Then I just started swimming, and she ended up right there...Still not sure how she got there :idk:

Anyway, I haven't had a lot of time to play unfortunately, but visually this game is beautiful too...That should definitely be noted.

Weird. That exact same thing happened to me. I swam underneath and around all of the submerged subway cars, emerged on the other side to find a floating pallet waiting for me, and she was standing on the other side of the tracks.

Welp, I'm about 11 hours in. All I can say is it's the best game I've EVER played. It's basically flawless.

I agree that it's fantastic, and is probably the best game I've ever played as well, I wouldn't say that it's flawless by any means. One thing that kind of puts me off is the AI of your friends. You can be in a tense-as-HELL moment, trying to sneak by some clickers, and whoever is with you can basically run around willy-nilly, clomping around (Bill was ESPECIALLY bad for this) and the clickers won't notice them. But, if you do that as Joel, the motherfuckers will straight eat you in no time flat. Granted, I can see the dilemma that Naughty Dog had here. No one wants to die and/or lose progress over something that was in no way their fault, and was only done by the game itself. So they had to make a choice between letting the player dictate that action, or let them get into a situation where they got into a fight or died over something they had no hand in. That's irritating as fuck. I can understand the choice they made there, but it IS an immersion killer at times.

It's still the best game I have ever played. Didn't think anything could unseat Bioshock Infinite in that regard.

Not only that, but sneaking up and killing a clicker that's standing right next to another one... clearly there's a fair bit of noise going on once you've started your "stealthy" kill, and yet they don't notice anything. But make the slightest noise while you're creeping up and you're fucked. Which means you're thinking in terms of what the game allows you to get away with, rather than what it would really be like.

And yeah, Bill's stomping about the place was fuckin' ridiculous. The first couple of times I heard it and thought, "Oh shit, some kind of big fucker's coming from somewhere," and then Bill walked into view. He was a funny fucker though. "Well, I locked it. They don't have a key."

I do like that the enemies basically don't respond to seeing/hearing your allies, as it'd be fucking irritating if they did. Even if they'd made the ally AI fuckin' amazing, in a game like this you'd still want to punch things when you were spotted because of your allies. But yeah, it's one of the few things in the game that ruins the immersion a bit.

I understand your guys' complaints, but you have to remember this is a GAME. There are certain things you just can't get around in a game. Like I said, all things considered, I think it's basically flawless. Beat it last night BTW!!

Beat it last night. Fucking unbelievably awesome. Probably one of the greatest stories in a video game. I want to play it again, but I've got a lot of catching up to do with video games. Next on my list to play is probably Infamous 2

The noise issues when doing stealth kills is actually really a problem when playing on survivor+ as is yoru allys stomping around. However they do seem to stay still a lot more.

I'm about half way through my second play now and i'm still loving it. One thing I do love about Survivor+ is the fact that you don't have the listen mode available. I found that ruined things a little on my first (hard) play. I kept meaning to just ignore it but i couldn't.

However i'm not looking forward to the Bit as Ellie with David without the listening mode.

I'm really glad to hear this game is selling so well. When you have trouble finding it, you're doing it right.

Naughty Dog needs to start more franchises, I can't get enough of their games.

Yeah. You'll be saying that a lot through the course of this game.

I started it again so my wife could watch it -- she was almost in tears.

DLing it now..had to clear out a LOT of disk space for it :). This will be the first PS3 game I've bought in about a year, but from what everyone says, it's gonna be worth it.

Edit: well, as long as the power stays on, and the d/l continues, I should be playing by about 10:00pm eastern. Couple hours before bed should let me get into the game a bit.

I haven't gotten to play in over a week...but yes, absolutely worth it. It's one of the rare games that I feel is worth WAY more than the asking price...

Just finished this again on survivor last night. Noticed loads more things that i didnt see first time around and still didnt manage to get all of the collectibles.

I did however find the game more enjoyable and tense on survivor especially witht he fact that listening mode isnt available. It did make the bit with David really hard though.

Thematically speaking, that whole episode with David is well and truly FUCKED. UP.

I agree entirely.

I'm looking forward to seeing how/where they expand the campaign with the future DLC.
