You need to say "Dude" and "Farout" a lot. You will get another 30 percent easy!

update:
they just wanted meat in a seat. they wouldn't increase the starting pay any, and hired their second choice who accepted their offer.
the fact that they sent the offer to their second choice instead of telling me that there was no more money, take it or leave it, speaks volumes about the company.
dodged a bullet for sure.
now just gotta find something else real quick...wife's gonna be pissed.

yeah, but in this industry you get what you pay for.
their going to lose a lot more than the difference between what i would have accepted and what they're paying the nooblet because noobs cost money, and only a noob would have taken that offer.

How do you know how much a worker is worth?
Ninja, I see you.

Obviously, the market decides, and the current market is well, saturated. So, the price comes down. That's the answer in a literal sense.
But in the same breath, we collectively realize a heart surgeon is worth more than $7/hr regardless of supply or demand.
I completely disagree. Why do you say that a surgeon's worth is due to anything other than S&D?

This is what I was trying to describe above...If you have a unique skillset (which I do, and it sounds like you do too Zach) it takes more money and time to train someone, than it would if you just paid a little more for the guy who's going to hit the ground running.
Anyway, good for you for walking away, you wouldn't want to be at that company anyway...When it comes around to raise time and they say, "well a raise isn't in the budget this year"...yet you see the executives buying new vehicles, rolex's for all the execs, all passing through the companies financial accounts...Leaves a sour taste in your mouth when you have access to see that information, yet you get told there will be no raises.
This happened at my last job, and is also why I am no longer there. They also paid less than I was worth, but it was my first job out of college, so I gained experience for a few years before I could sprint away...So glad I'm out of that shithole.

whatevs, still worked out for him. take the offer and get paid shit and work for assholes vs find a better place. like he said they just wanted someone and its going to cost them a lot more in the long run. you dont always get what you ask for but sometimes a no is the best outcome and a better opportunity will present itself.
Re: first world problems: got a job offer, pay is too low
fortunately, i've got a pretty broad skillset.
I can do drafting stuff, either mechanical or architectural.
I can do HVAC.
I can manage an auto repair shop.
I can do elecritical and electronic work.
ultimately, i'm not worried about whether i'll find a job, i'm just not sure how long it'll take. in the meantime, i'll get to focus on the last few amps i need to build so i can get some new stuff cranked out and potentially start taking orders again.
