Check out Lithium.
This looks like it might make sense if you have a large chain of retail stores and want to build a community. Maybe check them out at the next trade show. I'll bet they port over all your content for free.

Seems that Lithium's 'thing' is to leave 40% of available space completely blank - or available for generic images - either side of a core information center.
That works ok on a conventional website - although it's a waste of space - but not on a forum.
