That's a feature. Forced software update that bricks your system. :thu:

Don't they have a new console coming out soon?

I get scared every time an update comes out for any of my devices now. No company seems safe from launching the brick attack, and then shrugging when customers complain.

According to late in that thread, Sony pulled it once they realized what it was doing. So it shouldn't be an issue right now.

Shit, that'd be a major selling point to me. Do you know how many kids that age NEED a good beating?

No way I'm reading through 91 pages of pre-teens...Did sony ever comment on it? or offer a fix for those users?

They took the update offline, and there'll be a fix / new update on the 27th. I'm using my PS3 online with no issues, and I was never asked to update to version 4.45

I bought 3 PS3s that either had GLOD or YLOD to try and bring them back to life. I realize the thread is talking about software bricking, but simply playing these things will brick them eventually.

Not really a fan of PS3s at the moment. Sony has been pretty belligerent and are not being held responsible for putting out a product that simply stops working due to faulty design. Now this software shit...

For as much shit as we've been talking about Microsoft, Sony is not without their problems. I've heard all sorts of dumb shit about their on line service. And I'm pretty sure this isnt the first time a Sony update has bricked PS3's.

you can d/l the update, then boot your ps3 in safe mode to install it. Sony will have instructions when the update is released.

Apparently this issue only happens if your hard drive is over 750gb. It was initially thought to be 500gb and over but people below 750gb dont seem to be having issues.

I had the issue. Just hold the power button in to get into safe mode and reinstall. Problem solved.

 To be fair, I think he was just implying that playstations can become paperweights. Actually, the way he stated it, he was saying that they WILL become paperweights. Luckily you can disregard some opinions if you want. I've had mine for about 4 years and it still works fine, though if it did bust I dunno if I care enough to go out and buy another.

I am not mad at Sony in the least. However, considering that half of the PS3s in existence are YLOD and there are thousands of people who offer reflow/reballing services out there, it is pretty easy to conclude that Sony put out a poorly designed product.

I bought my PS3s to try and bring them back to life because so many people have had success in doing so. Two of them are launch 60gb models that are backwards compatible and one is a Slim that had GLOD.

My inability to bring them back to life means nothing considering I shouldn't have to bring them back to life in the first place. Get it slappy?

That's all they do as far as I'm concerned. I've had enough bad experiences with them that I pretty much won't buy Sony stuff anymore because it seems to ALWAYS break sooner than other brands these days.

Was the a PS3 update though, or the game update when you first put it in?

Dude, you bought them broken...and you knew it...That's nobodies fault but your own inept ass  Calling it a poorly designed product because you are too dumb to fix it is not anyone's fault but the user...ie: you.

I have a launch 60gb model that I've had since 2007 and use netflix on it at least 5 nights a week, and use it as my main dvd/blu-ray player...I have had ZERO issues with it. I also have a slim that I bought about 3 years ago for the bedroom, and that too gets use nearly daily...Nothing wrong.

Are there bad apples? Sure...but look what Microsoft released...worse than sony's failure rate by a nautical mile... (I also have a 360 that I have had zero problems with...)

No, you can't read fine. If you could, you would read that Sony manufactured a defective product where a whole cottage industry has been created to fix these defective products and for shits and giggles, I attempted to rescue a few of the defective products myself.

Had I not come along in the first place, there would still be three dead PS3s all the fault of Sony's shitty engineering. Are you mentally handicapped in a way that doesn't allow you to understand that?

I buy three broken consoles that broke due to Sony's shitty engineering. I attempt to revive them and you somehow turn that into: "Marshallnoise blames Sony for his inability to fix the consoles that broke due to their (Sony's) shitty engineering."

You belong in politics if you can spin that shit that hard.
