$6.99 a gallon for the cheap stuff? I'm sure I'll win if we use $10 bucks as the goal!

*fingers crossed I win*

Not much better here in WA. You're in Cali, right?

I had to get on the phone with those fucks down at the Safeway League Office yesterday because they didn't give me my gas points for the $650 i've spent there in the last month and needed to fill up my F-250. They just conveniently started to fuck up giving people their rewards points this past month according to the lady at the customer service counter.

That's 60 cents off of every gallon of diesel, which is a LOT of fucking money when you have a 30 gallon tank to fill. All these fucking corporate establishments trying to fuck people over.

Isn't it crazy how diesel and gasoline prices have flip flopped over the years? Before diesel was always cheaper, but now it's ridiculous. I thought I read that diesel is even cheaper to make when compared to gas.

That's interesting. Diesel has always been more expensive in the UK. We're probably going to hit £2/L before too long

thankfully diesel is still cheaper here in the islands.... use to be $1.50 TT a Litre.... now it's $4.50.... so that would be a 15 pence to 45 pence a liter increase lol

Here's one. Do y'all remember the morning of 9/11 when gas was under a dollar (give or take for the premium blends) and almost exactly after the attack happened gas shot up to $3 bucks, before settling down to exorbitant "new norm" pricing?

It's bounced back and forth. When I bought my first diesel truck back in 2012 (2005 Dodge Ram 2500), diesel was like $4.05/gal which allowed me to buy that truck for like $5000 under market value and it was nearly 80 cents a gallon more expensive than 93 octane at the time.

Then, around 2015 or so, it seemed that diesel had flipped in value and gasoline was more expensive; like 30 cents/gal more expensive for low-grade 87 octane.

Now, diesel is more expensive again, and egregiously so. It doesn't make sense, as chemically speaking it is significantly easier to refine/produce diesel than it is gasoline. This is a big reason why airfares have shot through the roof as well; JP8 (diesel) goes up in price, and they have to raise the prices accordingly.

Looks like I won't win the price race any time soon. Our gas went down to $4.85, thus making it to $10 less tenable.

We've been steady here at $5.59 for a while, I guess at least it's remaining steady. I'm surprised we haven't seen a huge spike in people stealing gas out of cars at night. Our meth heads still seem to be sticking to looking for unlocked cars at night to steal from and catalytic convertors.

This is already happening in San Diego, we have a pretty bad homeless problem that is getting worse. Jerks aren't even siphoning the gas, they're drilling holes in peoples tanks at night. So not only is your gas being stolen, but you're also out the money and time to replace the tank itself. Bullshit.

It's going down here. Price was $4.79 at my gas station today. I used my grocery store (Giant) rewards points and got 50c off per gallon. So $4.29/gl after the discount. Still FAR from affordable but better than the last few months...

Don't hold your breath. The price of oil is rebounding. We'll see if it holds.

Time to nationalize energy production in the USA and build more refineries.

There's a book called The Energy Non-Crisis and the author said that the U.S. is flush with oil, especially in Prudhoe Bay in Alaska.

Yep. Doesn't change the fact that we need to move away from petrol and other hydrocarbons. There are also apparently thousands of drilling leases that are secured but aren't being drilled. Why bother when the price is high.

Oil quantity is not the issue. Refining capacity is. Companies have slowly but surely and very strategically shut down refining capacity in America.

There are plenty of options that the market won't bare as long as big oil has the wheel. If something comes along to challenge oil, Exxon can pump and frack and crash the price as needed and have their way. Without a full on societal turn away from oil, it won't change. Like I said earlier, worldwide petrol-gangster state.

I can't find the link, as always, but there was a economist from I think Harvard. Might have been MIT. He wrote a thesis back in 2014-15 that Obama seized on. His premise was that America and Canada should spend the next 20 years basically pumping and fracking so much oil and natural gas, at such a high rate, that North America becomes it's own oil cartel. We pump at a scale and volume that would basically crush OPEC and Russia. If they want to cut production to try and squeeze the price, we do what the diamond cartels do and flood the market and fuck them over. We not only gain market position and strength. We'd also gain geopolitical power by fucking their economies. If oil is cheap, Russia goes broke and the House of Saud has to spend out of their sovereign funds.

The other side of his thesis was that while we are pillaging OPEC and Russia, we subsidize solar, hydro and wind projects all over North America to ween ourselves off of petrol as much as possible. Oil is used to manufacture too many things. We'll never fully escape it's presence. But the idea is to minimize it's usage and clean up the environment as much as we can. Then, since we'd have built up a gargantuan strategic reserve of oil and gas, we could still control the price as desired. Along with having the rigs ready to turn on and pump if needed.

It was a brilliantly simple plan. Obama latched right on to it. But our federal government was and still is handcuffed by big oil politicians.

There's much more to it than that. Blaming the oil companies is media misdirection at its finest.

Having drilling leases doesn't mean you can still go and drill for oil, there's a whole lot more to it than that. More permits, environmental studies, lawsuits from groups trying to stop drilling from happening on that land. And even before all of that, just because a company has a permit to drill on a piece of land, it doesn't mean there's oil there or enough to justify going through that whole process.
We had a period where we were drilling enough oil here that it was taking over OPEC's market share. To get back market share, OPEC pumped out so much that at one point, the barrels holding the oil were worth more than the oil in it, but the Saudi's didn't care, they are still making profit when oil was at $8 a barrel, I think at the time, in the US, break even was $30.

many states tell people to limit their AC in summer, and have rolling blackouts ... grid can barely handle what we have now, not to mention EVERYONE having electric cars.

at current usage, the US has enough oil to last the next 400 years. time to make it flow ...
