any of you ever had trigger finger?

Post by trey85stang2 »

I have it in my thumb, been living with it for about 3+ years now, but the time has come I think I need to do something about it, it hurts like a mofo when playing guitar to long (and too long is only like 30 minutes), its on my picking hand.

I had trigger finger so, I went to a specialist for a cortisone injection in my left index finger.
He told me to come back for more cortisone injection$ if it doesn't get better.

Luckily, on my way out, I mentioned that I play guitar and that I had show the following month.
It was only then (on my way out the door) that told me that trigger finger is usually caused by something that you're doing to your finger but don't notice.... like, sleeping with your hand in a weird position, holding a video game controller for hours and hours or, doing a lot of driving and holding the steering wheel in a way that fucks up your finger.

Turned out that was exactly what I was doing....
I have a 90 min drive to work and a 90 min drive home.
For almost the entire ride, I would rest my left elbow on the side door window ledge and hold the steering wheel with my left index finger.
When I changed the way I held the steering wheel my finger got better.
It took a month to get better and I still have to make sure I don't hold the steering wheel that way, because the pain will come back fairly quickly.

Trigger finger doesn't start without a cause...
Figure out what it is that you're doing to give yourself trigger finger and stop doing it!!!

As stupid as it sounds if you work on a computer for at least half a day most people tend to use the mouse button control with their index finger. That was what caused mine to hurt so I have to switch from the mouse to the track pad on the computer itself. As other posters said it is usually from other things in life you are doing that you don't even realize.

Try wearing a glove when you drive and when you do anything physical.
Try wearing it when you sleep - many people think they have arthritis in their hands, but it's because they sleep with their fingers jammed into the pillow, with sideways pressure on their fingers.

ive been wearing one of these for a few weeks now and it has been better. I also started adding electrolytes to my morning water which has helped as well. It still hurts but not as bad as it was for a while.
