Ah. I think I’ve been passing time instead. I do really like the mechanic where you can basically do a heavy riposte after blocking an attack. That’s new. Wouod have loved to have had that in DS3.

It’s so nice. Kind of like a compromise between the party/riposte and Bloodborne’s blunderbuss stagger into riposte.

Just killed my first big boss, Margit. Tough fucker but I got him. Used the AI summon they give you outside his mist gate and the jellyfish summon to poison him. Really helped out

I’d say combat wise it’s still very in the souls camp but with some additional countering options to speed the feel a bit. The jump button is pretty nice too. Aside from being more open world, the gameplay and structure is very much akin to Dark Souls and to Bloodborne to an extent, especially once you get into dungeons and caverns to explore. And yes it’s still hard.

You do start back at a check point but it seems fairly generous compared to Bloodborne.
Yeah, this. There are MANY more sites of grace (essentially bonfires/lamps) than what you're used to in these types of games. The bosses will still wreck you, and the game is still very hard, but you don't have to run a half marathon to get back.
primeholy wrote:When you die in this do you start wayyy back like in bloodborne?
Cool thing is that besides the sites of grace (aka bonfire), there are things called Stakes of Marika that are placed right outside boss rooms and generally tough areas. If you die in a staked area, you'll be presented with the choice of respawing at the stake, or at your last rested grace. This really cuts down on tough run-backs.
I'm up to level 63ish and am having a fucking blast. I think this is the greatest video game I've ever played tbh. There's SO much shit to do and SO much shit to find. The world design is absolutely incredible; I can't hardly wrap my head around how they were able to craft a map so big and so detailed.
I pretty much did nothing this weekend except play ER. Now I'm back at work this morning and all I wanna do is go home and play some more

How the hell did you find the time? I think I've played maaaaaybe 5 hours? I've cleared out two caves, killed two bosses (one cat type statue that burped fire and one with a cleaver in a cave full of wolves), and basically just ran around a little bit. The controls are taking me some time to get used to. I just got a second smithing stone to be able to upgrade my broadsword. It's like I want to explore everywhere but am also terrified to do it.
Those Godrick solder bastards with the huge shields and spears can go fuck right off.

I took off work Friday and basically have no life in general so it's no problem for me I crashed out as soon as I got home from work Thursday then woke up at 11:00 when the game released and basically just played it non-stop from there
I haven't found the cave with the cat statue guy yet; where about was it?
Also, regarding the Godrick soldiers....just wait until you get to Godrick himself

Pretty close to the entry point of Limgrave. Just northwest of the Tree Sentinel (I've not dared to actually engage that fucker just yet). Stormfoot, I think it's called?

I started as the Prisoner (dex and int) and have been leveling both of those accordingly. Currently using Rogier's Rapier +11 and the Meteorite Staff
Also the sweet Prisoner Mask (gimp mask ) that the Prisoner starts with is still currently the best helmet I've found so far; haven't had any need to use something else.
Apparently weapons can be upgraded all the way to +25 on here
I have a feeling the meta PVP level will be ultra high in this game (like level 150 or even 200) because I'm finding stuff that has absolutely insane requirements (the moonspell you get for trading in the mage chick's boss soul for instance requires 70 INT to cast )

Yeah, I'm exploring as much as I can, and every time I get anywhere near him, I just nope right the fuck out. Not yet. I'm not ready, and I know that. lol
Pro tip: I would suggest summoning NPC's for every boss fight any time one is available, even if you think you don't need to. You'll miss out on some questlines if you don't

Since I don’t know what this means, I’m assuming I haven’t unlocked that ability yet. lol

You've played the Dark Souls games and Bloodborne right? It works the exact same way; look for the gold NPC summoning sign outside of a boss fog gate.
Except in Elden Ring you don't even need to use something like Humanity or Human Effigies to see them. You'll just see them automatically

I think I just got an item that lets me see those. Do I need to equip it, or does automatically work passively?
Beat Godrick and I'm not sure what area to hit up next. I'll settle back in soon but damn it seems like the mobs REALLY level up between the first and second area.

No that item is for seeing other player's summon signs. NPC summon signs show up without having to do anything (assuming you've spoke to the NPC in question ahead of time - but for Margit's boss fight Sorcerer Rogier's sign will be there even before you actually meet him)

Dude if you managed to beat Godrick you're in good shape.....I know of at least two people that ragequit because of him
I tried to explain that it's fucking open world game - just go somewhere else and acquire gear and level up until you're ready for the fight, but the butthurt was too strong to listen to reason
