This is what works for me. I hate traveling so every couple of years my wife takes a trip with her friends. She has gone to Hawaii, Nicaragua, Cameroon, India, and even Bhutan. I am very happy to pay for it, too.

yeah, you may want to negotiate and come to some middle ground; ie travel once or twice a year (make sure you have a good attitude during the trips or it will backfire) + see if she has buddies to travel with

But if you stick at home and she is off traveling all the time, that doesn't sound like a great recipe for enduring happiness

Thanks, Geno I know I can always count on you I told her to go with someone but hell, all our friends are fucking dead She can't go with my girls because they have to work day and night to make a fucking living. They can't get off unless I decide to support them. I'm going to go to a shrink and see if this may help. It's not the money, I just feel unsafe anymore

I forgot about the accident. I would think that hypnotherapy might help. If you flew and didn't drive would that help? I flew to Le Blanc in Cancun and paid for a limo to and from the resort, which I never left. It was totally relaxing except for the constant 8 ft. swells at the beach. If I went again, I'd go in a month with calmer water, like May instead of October. I hear Cozumel is worse.

Put these 2 together and it's not hard to understand why she wants to travel, see new places etc... it's probably a fear of getting old without seeing or enjoying everything she wanted to.
I know you really don't want to do it, but maybe try to reach some kind of compromise (a set number of travel days/ trips per year) that both of you can be happy with.
There are some meds you can use sporadically when you're in a plane, Dramamine is very effective and can be bought OTC (it's meant for motion sickness but it also helps a lot with anxiety).

You guys have been married for over 40 years. Separation after all this time and at your age is fucking brutal and I don't think either of you would end up happier in that situation. Try to work this out. It's going to take some compromise but it's better than the alternative.

I loathe the interstates. A couple years ago we started using smaller local highway routes to travel as far as 10+ hours away and it makes the drive exponentially more enjoyable and relaxing amd doesn’t add an unreasonable amount of time depending on the specific routes. Plus we get to see tons of small towns, old buildings etc. It takes a little longer but feels like half the time to me. We love driving this way.

I swear your posts are sounding more and more familiar. I'm not sure how they need to proceed either. My dad traveled the globe for his career, and now that he's older he just wants to hang out with his dog in his man cave surrounded by all the stuff he enjoys. Traveling is the opposite of what he wants to do. He's experienced a lot of heartache, especially in recent years with the death of my brother and several other personal family issues, and I've started to understand where he's coming from.

Meanwhile my mom yearns to travel to see everything she's missed over the years as a stay at home mom. We started taking my mom and mother in law on a yearly vacation with the grandkids as our annual Christmas present to them. We've been to Cabo, Cancun, and last year was Broken Bow, OK. It's certainly helped her because while she wants to travel, she's not used to doing things on her own.

All that aside, I hope you figure out a balance to life. I'm sorry to hear about your fear of travel, and agree with Billy that splitting at your age won't really solve either of your problems. Divorce is a solid answer for a lot of couples but at your age you're losing your life partner.



tl;dr send your wife to Vegas solo, and hire some hookers while she's gone. You'll both fucking hate it and never bring this up again.
