This is a quick clip from a really, really simple song I threw together basically just as a learning experience in breaking in some new gear and recording/mixing techniques. I also used this same section of the song in a thread about my new Rectoverb, but this is a different mix, and I'm looking specifically for mix feedback now, so I thought I'd post in the recording section.

I know that the palm muted riff is also not played quite tightly enough, but hopefully it shouldn't interfere with the ability to judge the mix. :P
Anyway, I know it's got some problems, but I'm beginning to hit a metal brick wall, so I'd love to get some feedback and advice.

Re: Mix test, looking for feedback and advice
The only thing mix wise that I can hear is that the snare really stands out. It almost seems like the rest of the drums/cymbals are softer than the snare. The guitars sound good, but I think if you lower the volume of the snare, the guitars might have to come down a bit.
Other than that everything sounds good, and it seems to be separated well enough on the track. It doesn't sound like there are any fat areas because of overlapping frequencies. The bass sounds great too; they lend a good support to guitars!

Re: Mix test, looking for feedback and advice
Thanks Cole!
I actually just tweaked the mix again (before I read that).
It's the same link.
I really should have stopped an hour ago. My ears are totally shot.
My big battle is transients vs. sustain. I want the drums to sound punchy, but have a fat room sound as well. It's hard to give it both. Too much room and they have no punch in the mix. If they have lots of punch, the sustain immediately gets lost in the mix. So I've been trying to clean up the guitars and bass to give the drums more room to breathe in the mix, but it's difficult to do that without them just sounding puny.
Argh, I need a break!

Cool little clip! Would like to hear this expanded to a full song.

Sounds pretty good to me but I'm currently on earbuds at the office. I'll try to remember to check it on my monitors tonight.
I like the tone. Playing's pretty good too.
