How do you guys feel about this?
First and foremost, I WOULD HAVE DONE THE EXACT SAME THING AS HER PARENTS.

Having said that, I can't help but think that because of the times we live in with 24/7 news and social media, that there is some "bullying" going on when it comes to certain things, and someone out there who was going to get these lungs, are now not going to get them. What about that person?
Like I said, in their shoes, yadda yadda, but a lot of my friends are "praying" for this girl, I'm thinking we should be thinking about the person that got shafted.

Re: How do you guys feel about this?
its my understanding that she didnt cut in front of people who were already in line. did that happen or did they just make an exception and place a child in line with the adults which they normally dont do? if they didnt skip anyone already in line and they are able to save a young girl then i think it was a good call but i would not feel the same way if she skipped people already in line just by going viral on social media.
its crazy the developments in medicine these days. things they couldnt do 5 years ago they can do now so sticking with old policies is not always wise.

Good question, I don't know if she bumped anyone off, and I can't stress enough, I do feel for this poor little girl.
I just hope this is not at the expense of someone else, and because it became public/viral.
Thing is, if they placed her in line with adults, this hasn't been going on that long, I would imagine she was pushed to the front of the line, but that could also be because she was close to death.

Re: How do you guys feel about this?
what i heard on the news (easily could be incorrect) is that adult line moves much faster than the children's line and that they were not requesting her to be bumped in front of adults already in line just added to the adult line instead of remaining in the children's line where she would have had no chance. i honestly dont think they would have bumped her to the front of the line in front of people who had been waiting, i think the adult line just moves much faster.
its pretty crazy; they were talking about taking adult lungs, cutting them in half and putting them in her body.
one of the morals of the story: BE AN ORGAN DONOR!!!!!!

I dont know how I feel about it. Mixed emotions.
A friend of mine just recently had a kidney & liver transplant all in one setting.
My brother inlaw had a kidney transplant last year (got his from his mamma. She was a match, so he lucked out)

She didn't bump anyone, bros.
She was waiting for lungs from a 0-11 year old which rarely come up. Adult and teenager lungs are more common and those go to teenagers and adults. Every teen and adult within 500 miles would have had to turn down the lungs before she had a chance at a transplant.
Ain't gonna happen, so her parents petitioned anything and everything they could.

Re: How do you guys feel about this?
I don't understand the adult - child waiting list thing at all. I feel anyone who needs a transplant should be on one list. Other than a possible fitment consideration, age, sex, race etc should have no influence on a persons need and entitlement to be considered. I have been a registered donar for about 30 years, I would hate to think that a persons age would be a discriminating factor in the selection process. No body is any more or less needy than anyone else.
No the girl didn't bump anyone, as some of the other posters have noted.
Lets all just wish the little girl some "MoJo" for a speedy recovery.

I think the point is that lines are changing. Why hold onto that rule forever if it doesn't make sense? If you can save a kid who has an entire life left to live you should consider it. If you keep the status quo forever you never grow.

Don't get me wrong, I hope the kids pulls through, but I hope even more that this decision doesn't set a precedent that results in the deaths of other children & eligible teen/adult candidates who don't receive organs due to meddling by attorneys and judges.
I think this is where I'm at. Tough situation, but, yeah.

Re: How do you guys feel about this?
Yep, I fully grasp what you are saying and alluded to the dual procedure issue in my second post in the thread. I'm just saying if you remain at the status quo you never progress. 5 years ago we never thought many things that are possible today were attainable and that is a direct result of pushing the envelope. Someone always has to be first and sometimes it takes failure to bring future success.
If she was able to get to the front of the line that quickly chances are the person behind her who wasn't even on the list when all this happened will still get lungs. Plus now the kid who was behind her is bumped up the list with her getting removed from the children's list.
