I love Steely Dan but I have to be in the right mood for it. I sometimes go months, maybe even years without listening to them, then I go through a binging phase lol
The cool thing is every time I revisit these records I discover details I hadn't heard before.
Guitars:
'78 Les Paul Pro / '89 SG Special/ '04 Gibson Les Paul Classic 3 pickup / Jackson Star/ Endres Tele / Fernandes Rhoads/ ''74 Hohner MIJ strat/ 2 Partscasters

Amps:
Depends on when you ask. I got tired of constantly updating this section lol

Cabs
Marshall 1960A w V30s/ Seismic 2x12 w Redback and V30.

Billy… same here. The way it goes for me is a song will get stuck in my head, this time it was My Home School, and then have to listen to it, then mini binge, then repeat in a year or two.

With Steely Dan I usually have a few songs on each album I really like, but when it comes to Can't Buy A Thrill I binge the whole album into the ground every 2-3 years.

Ever since I was a kid, Steely Dan was played in the house when we cleaned it, a tradition I hold to this day. I saw them (well, Donald Fagen’s current lineup; he obviously acknowledged that Walter Becker couldn’t be there, citing an existential crisis) live in 2018, and had the urge to clean Breese Stevens Field the whole time.

since nobody's taken the opportunity, i acknowledge the vast musical ability of steely dan, but they make me wretch at the sheer level of smarm that donald fagan represents. he's kinda like a vortex of smug ick- and if i met the dude, he'd probably just be another one of us, i know i know.

i really really have a visceral dislike for steely dan, and even if it's pure misunderstanding on my part, bleh. :D some sounds just don't resonate, i guess.

The Dan is the best. My buddy describes them like this: I’ve never heard such complicated music sound so relaxed.

Asia is one of the best sounding, if not the best, recordings of all time. At the very least, of several eras.
