Initially the Statesman wouldn't post the description while the police were still looking for the suspect. The article stated due to the sensitive nature of the stereotype, or some jazz like that, that they wouldn't be listing the description. They've since caught the 17 year old and are looking for the second guy.

It's called the Gated Institutional Narrative (GIN) which is a phenomena whereby media outlets either omit key elements of a story that would run counter-narrative to the consumer market niche that drives their business model, or they just simply don't report on the story at all but cause it's too counter-narrative to their consumer echo chamber. The most obvious and easy example of this would be Fox and MSNBC who report in very carefully gated manner to their polar opposite viewership. You can see the same exact story reported given completely different narratives as you toggle back and forth between those channels.

The result is an example like this one and we could find a similar example on the other side of the divide. However, the majority of news media outlets have a left/liberal (liberal now being a misnomer in most cases) bias these days.

Another prime example of this would be the anti-Asian hate crimes and violent attacks in New York City. If the perpetrator is not white, which has been the case in the majority of incidents, news outlets are very careful to avoid reporting the race of the asshole. Where incidents were perpetrated by whites the race is described either in the title or within the first 2-3 sentences.
