Ok....42.....not in BAD shape...not in GREAT SHAPE....
Had annual physical today....doc said my Blood pressure was out of control. Wants to prescribe me Blood pressure pills. I asked him about my weight...said was fine.... it boiled down to my sodium intake (diet) basically.... have to go back in 2 weeks for re-evaluation. Sucking..... Any other old farts have to deal with this??
40 and healthy. My numbers are good. I eat very lean and exercise. It helps that I come from really good, skinny genetics.
Make the necessary dietary changes and start working out on a regular basis(If you don't already). It will suck for a while. But if you stick with it, you'll feel so much better.
It's always better to proactive instead of reactive.
Thanks guys! Guess I am looking for support. I know my diet has been shit.....but when flashed in your face at the hospital... gets a little scary. Said my Cholesterol levels are fine though....so thats a plus!
Time to eat more veggies! If you can do it with diet alone youll live longer. FWIW stay away from drugs like Lipitor as they seem to promote senility. Many Doctors are paid by big pharma to prescribe crap like that and patients wind up paying to be lab rats.

well its thru the VA hospital......and hope they are not into the drug pushing. But I felt like SHIT the past 3 months.....shortness of breath ....etc.... always chalked it up to not working out. I know diet adds alot......but guess I needed to be SLAPPED with it to take a point.
I have excessively low BP but I do have high cholesterol. It's genetic. I take meds. It's no biggie.
I've lost a bunch of weight over the last couple of years and gotten much healthier just by making small changes I could stick with. Cut one thing at a time out of your diet, exercise a bit more here and there, etc.
I know.....when I want to make these 'changes'....... Always go 100 percent or nothing! Then after a week or so.......give up. Need to make a lifestyle change.....day by day. its a bitch for sure.

Yup
I started doing stupid little things. When I go to walk up my stairs I walk up, then back down then back up again lol.
I cut all extra sugar out of my diet starting with soda.
I started making dinners smaller and smaller. Just that one meal, portion size smaller and smaller till I just sorta snack now and never eat after 6:00.
I drink tons of water.
Just little stuff like that at first.
Now I'm up to jogging and lifting weights again.
I went from about 230lbs (I'm about 6'1") and now I'm 190lbs and almost have my 6pack back.
Diet? Today I had jelly beans for breakfast, a jumbo Red Bull for lunch, at 4pm I had Maccas, and probably somewhere between 10 and 12 tonight I'll have dinner... which at the moment I'm thinking will be popcorn.
Maybe the consensus of the GAB bros are right: Probably will die before 40. I still got two years.
Kidding aside, I haven't had a checkup in a while and I need to asap, if the doctor doesn't die out on me when he/she reads back the results that is. I know I badly need to make changes.
If you eat a predominantly Paleo diet and exercise regularly you'll be surprisingly healthy, no matter what your age. It's the man made foods that bring excesses of the white deaths (sodium, sugar, and non food chems), and lethargic lifestyles that let your blood sit around stagnating. Gotta make sure you have high octane fuel flowing through the veins and get it circulating regularly.
I'm 55 -- my blood pressure is 106/66 -- resting heart rate in the 40s. If I can turn it around anyone can.
You anted up a narcissistic boil and a conniving witch. Thanks America. Signed, the world.
Back in my twenties, my resting heart rate was below 30 and closer to 25. I told a nurse that once and she said I should be dead. I told her I was just super fit.
She didn't buy it. But I am still here. So I was right.
49 - take blood pressure & cholesterol meds. Not the end of the world - at least they can treat us old farts today unlike years ago when we would stroke out early from hbp

If you're serious, that's pathetic... just reading that made me feel like i was in a clouded, grumpy mood.. there is no reason to eat/drink that amount of junk in one day.

I actually ended up eating more jelly beans instead of popcorn. That said, I didn't have many left, so I'm still hungry and will probably end up eating popcorn anyway.
I don't eat jelly beans for breakfast every day, or Maccas for late-afternoon lunch every day... but it's not an entirely bad indication as to what my diet is like. I suppose today was a particularly retarded day.

I'm 31 and they put me on BP med a year ago. I am/was pre-hypertensive. I knew something was wrong I could just feel it, I could feel a bounding pressure when my heart would beat, sometimes. After the meds, I felt a lot better, I could feel my BP lowering.
My diet wasn't that great, and I wasn't fat. Infact I used to be a gym rat, my doctor even said... just because someone doesnt look unfit doesnt mean they dont have high BP and used me as an example.
I will say it was partly my diet, I eat a TON of chicken and rice but I make my own stir-fry sauce and even with low sodium products, its still high in sodium. It so easy, fast, and good I cant give it up.
Stop eating fast food (McDonald's, etc.). It's packed with hidden sodium. At the grocery store, buy more food on the periphery (the walls), and less from the middle aisles. The real, unprocessed food (fruits, vegetables) is on the outside, the processed crap in boxes (Coco Puffs) is in the center of the store.
