Going on three weeks without the booze

Been reading a book by Allen Carr called 'EasyWay'. Helping me out a lot. I'm not even getting the shakes
Reason for me to quit is my blood work is fucking terrible. High sugar, cholesterol, both liver functions high ...
Just got my blood work results today and my sugar is normal. My cholesterol is 207; so so. Only my ALT is a bit high on my liver now.

struggling here too. i seem to skip from one thing to another. gave up drinking, took up other things. gave those up, took up smoking. gave up smoking, took up dipping and then i still smoke here and there. the alcohol is the worst for me b/c it really changes me and i don't want to raise my 9 month old daughter in a house where daddy gets wild as shit when he drinks. exercise helps but damn, as i've gotten older my willpower is less. we need an official kick the habits thread so we can all help each other out. it doesn't help that the last 2 years have been full of huge ups and downs for the ole sasquatch. am seeing a dr about it and a therapist and it really helps, but i still get that thing in my brain when i am feeling good (sober), i want to feel better which in turn actually makes me feel worse. big pinch of copenhagen in the mouth as i type.

well, they are different. what pepi seems to describe is withdrawal. what i am describing is sort of like alcohol poisoning. i shook for about 3 hours straight. probably borderline convulsive. i have since gotten help and realize at the heart of my problems is anxiety and ocd and have since gotten help. being sober is the best feeling, period. i'm a very happy person with a big glass of sweet tea.

yeah that's what I was wondering.... I've only known one person that would get shakes from alcohol withdrawals... it was rough... dude like needed to have a beer by lunch or else he's just be on edge... the good thing was he was "under control" in that it's not like after the first one he would start drinking... an Ex of mine's dad was BAD.. he would binge drink for a week at a time... don't go to work, just drink and sleep... real scary.. then he would stop drinking for a few months then BAM... binge drink again...

that's my brother. at his peak, he was drinking a 1/2 gal of barton's vodka a day. he was horrible. better now but when he does drink it usually involves a trip to the hospital.

That's some scary shit man... I don't know how I would deal with that if it was my brother... my family can put it away that's for sure but, none of us are dependent though. I'm the only one that doesn't give up drinking for lent... one of them stopped for like 8 months cold turkey when he was on a very strict diet and had no problems.. I've not drank for months at a time simply because I wasn't going out as much, I'm a social drinker so if I'm not with people I will not drink, not even a glass of wine or a beer.

Fuck, that's what my bro drinks. Both brand and quantity.

Mojo to you bros that are suffering. It's a hard thing to deal with as I've seen first hand.

I could drink two bottles of wine in an evening or maybe 12 beers in an evening. Sometimes a pint of whiskey in an evening. And get up and go to work the next day
Been doing this shit for years. Time to stop. As the book says ... "Tell me one good thing you get from drinking alcohol"

Good luck Pepi!!!
In a weird coincidence i quit drinking coffee about 3 weeks ago -- was a 4-6 cups a day guy -- sleeping way better -- and surprisingly, thinking far more clearly. Miss the evil bean tho.
Why I quit: I've had a constant headache (it's not a tooomah) as long as I can remember -- it's almost entirely gone. Fuck yeah.

Tastes Great.
Everyone loves a buzz.
Loosens the mood.
Makes touring comedians hilarious.
Makes shit bands tolerable.
Makes mediocre women beautiful.
Makes you 6 inches taller...and bulletproof.
And besides...who doesn't like waking up in a strange place every now and then?
Also...quitters never win.

Keep it up

Any sort of urge you get will go away quickly; just have to make it through each one and re-affirm the decision to stop drinking. Also good to stay away from bars and drinking buddies for some time. Also, if you fuck up, just stop again, it's not the end of the world.

3 1/2 years dry after being in the bottle for a quarter century. Never thought I would live to see it, but with help from my friends and family so far so good.
Bottle of bourbon every day at work and whatever came after really is no way to go through life. The adjustment hasn't been easy, but it's getting better.
The toughest part to me seems to be the physical act of the drink. Now the bottle is water instead of bourbon, but it gets me through and puts me a bit more at ease socially. Amazing what a crutch alcohol can be for one person while it has no effect on the next.

I had the shakes for a month or two after quitting drinking. Lots of nausea too. Sleep patterns were off as well. It took me a month or two before I could sleep right, after quitting.
