Ben Affleck as Batman? OH LAWDY

Oscar-winning director Ben Affleck is set to star as Batman in Warner Bros. Man of Steel sequel, the studio announced Thursday.
Zack Snyder will be returning to direct Affleck and Henry Cavill in the still-untitled film, which will be the first time Batman and Superman have shared the big screen. The press release announcing the news says that Affleck’s Batman will be “an entirely new incarnation of the character.” Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane will be returning to reprise their roles in the film as well, which is slated to open worldwide on July 17, 2015.
Snyder, whose Man of Steel has grossed over $649 million worldwide, said in the release: “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”
“We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some. His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character,” Warner Bros. exec Greg Silverman said in the announcement.
Man of Steel and Batman Begins scribe David Goyer is working on the script for a shoot that’s anticipated to begin sometime in 2014.
Affleck is no stranger to superhero roles for better or worse. His turn as the titular character in Daredevil was a box office and critical disappointment; he fared better in the reviews as Superman actor George Reeves in the 2006 film Hollywoodland.

Zach Snyder commented off the record "Look, we have a guy playing Superman nobody gives a shit about. We'll probably replace him with a stuffed dummy most of the time and CGI him into the scenes. We figure, why have an actor who can act upstaging Superman? We were thinking "Who can we get that's famous, not embarrassingly bad, but still even after years in the biz no more than a mediocre actor?
"Ben was the first to come to mind. He's hot off of some movie about making a movie in Iran or something? I don't know I didn't get around to seeing it as I was perfecting the blood spatter and lighting in my next picture. But yes, Ben, he's a great guy, easy on the eyes and we don't have to worry about his acting skills making the dummy, er hank, I mean Henry, look out of place or upstaged.

Its already been confirmed there's going to be Superman on Batman hardcore action.

i'm a huge batman fan, had 3 different people tell me about the news yesterday lol. Though I'm not psyched about it at all in the slightest, I'm gonna give it a chance. I don't have high hopes for it but I'll give it a chance. As far as I know it is only supposed to be a cameo of appearance of 20 minutes though. Hopefully he won't totally ruin the batman character in that 20 minutes.

Where did you hear that? The movie is called Batman vs. Superman and is supposed to be be somewhat based on The Dark Knight Returns (because if there's one thing Snyder loves its making bad film adaptations of fantastic 80s comics) so it's hard for me to imagine Batman will only have 20 minutes of screen time.

Eh. I'm less concerned with Affleck playing Batman than I am Snyder directing *anyone* as Batman.

Well maybe I should have prefaced my response with, I haven't really been following the developments very close. That info I read weeks ago when the rumor mill had first started about batman even being in the superman sequel. I now know it is turning into a full blown Batman vs Superman movie

Zakk Snyder sucks. Him and Bryan Singer are so fucking overrated. Even more so than Joss Whedon, who also can't write dialog to save his fucking life.

Ben Affleck's only endearing quality is his appearance in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and really only there because he spends more time picking on himself and his character than he does "being Ben Affleck," like he does in every other movie.
And I really wish Telephant would learn not to hold back what he's really feeling. Dude's so repressed he's gonna ulcerate himself into an early grave.

Firefly is probably the most overrated horse shit I've ever watched followed by the B movie version of it.
