is your job stressful?

love my job, would not change a thing. most times its not stressful at all and we joke around and email funny pics and youtube links. sometimes though i get stressed if a few deals fall apart or my pipeline doesnt look too strong. i always end up leading the dept and i know my job is not in jeopardy but i still stress out in those moments bc i never like losing or being behind. i think its kinda good bc it makes me work that much harder and then i see the results but it also makes me realize how much it would to suck if that stress was all the time or if you constantly thought you were going to lose your job. even with a savings having big boy bills and a household to support is no joke.

Ya bro. Every day.

We are always in the news, layoffs abundant, and really long hours. We just keep our noses to the grindstone and work more when other depts are let go since that work still exists. It just gets spread to the remaining depts. I love the company and my coworkers but we are all starting to feel it.

I think it's taking its toll on me.

Sporadically. Sometimes it's smooth as silk for weeks on end, then we'll get slammed with something and I'll be working long days and be up nights thinking about it. I manage 12 people, so there's always the chance of random drama there (and two of them being sick on the same day fucks my world sideways). And then I'm also a big chunk of the marketing department, so when there are ad deadlines or trade shows coming up, my workload increases exponentially.

Add to that the fact that I bonus based on profit and company performance and...yeah. I just talked myself into stress.

Seriously, though, I like my bosses and my employees. I'm fairly paid and just got a nice raise, and I'm openly appreciated and complimented on my work. Even on the hard days, this is a great job.

Nope. I go in, I do the gross physical labor, I go home. I see my boss a couple of minutes a day, and I'm either working with a single other coworker (at a time), all of whom I get along with, or by myself. I don't love my job, but it's almost zero stress.

Most of the time it is not, but it's been stressful lately. Also, I am sick of it. I've been here for 7 years and definitely getting burned out. I am not the type of guy that can stay for 10+ years on the same job, I need new challenges, new environment etc...

Sometimes, and its only relative stress. Stressful like an ER doc? Hell no.

Stressful in that unreasonable expectations are a common occurrence. Dealing with people who are pissed off by things out of my control. Trying to get everything in by deadlines. I typically don't mind the stress as it means I have something to do usually.

It can be, but its not bad and its the first job for a bit I'm not constantly thinking about it when I'm not there. Which is nice.

I'm lucky. Most of the time my job is amazing, I basically solve puzzles all day, but sometimes the puzzles are very intricate and challenging and keep me awake at night because the gears keep turning and turning and ... is that stressful? Fuck yeah, lack of sleep is fucking crippling.

It can be. I'm a CNC Machinist at a small job shop. We also build custom hot rods and automated machinery.

The actual job? No.

Dealing with my incompetent coworkers? Yes.

I've been working 12 straight days though since we had a huge storm roll through (I work for the power company) and it took out 157 poles and 93 transformers.

That's kinda stressful I guess.

It can be... I do mostly the design and consulting part of the business which isn't really that stressful unless I have a few projects with close deadlines but often I get involved in the installation department for the more complex integration projects, when projects have deadlines and the other services in the project are behind and not keeping up with you it's a pain in the ass...

Well. My job fuction has a weird no stress/stress kind of thing going on.

On one hand, it's very easy going. Outside all day, I run the show, just walk around and monitor metrics. Pretty swell actually.

Then, there's the thought of what ifs constantly. What if a mildew shows up? What if the well goes dry? What if the weather fucks it all up, what if the plants just shit their pants? What if I have subterrain irrigation lines blow?

It can happen at any time. But, most of the season is pretty easy. The planting and harvest are literally out of control. It's a very well oiled machine and if one part skips a beat, the whole operation comes to a haul.

If your cooler runner (truck) breaks down, you can't get product to the cooler or replenish the supply chain with reference to packaging

Workers run out of boxes to stuff produce in and they will leave- since they're paid by piece rate

Then all the normal stress of running a business; liabilities, servicing contracts, etc.

Wouldn't want any other job.

Yeah, my job has its fair share of stress. I am the Chair of one of the largest English departments on the West Coast so that means I have manage about 50 teachers spread out over 150 classes each quarter. Oh, and student complaints are almost a daily occurrence. I swear, though, sometimes dealing with my faculty is worse since they can be FAR more immature than the students...

Of course, summer quarter just ended so I have a few weeks of only prep work for fall and student issues are only maybe once a week.

I would be happy to just have a job to stress over. I haven't had a real job in years and I've pretty much given up hope of ever having one. I get by with multiple meaningless part-time jobs, occasional cover band gigs and flipping gear. None of the part-time stuff ever leads to anything despite the fact that I usually work rings around my co-workers, who are usually half my age. Its humbling to valet park cars when you are a 50 year old college grad. Its even more humbling to valet park a car for your ex-wife, which I have done. On top of that, the engine in my 4Runner just died and now I have to get a new car. Fun stuff.

On the other hand, I've always managed to stay afloat, I have perfect credit, I've never had to borrow money from family and I've never taken a penny of unemployment dough from the gub-ment. Plus, I still have plenty of cool gear, which I've managed to hang on to. But its a tough life...and I would love to have a job to stress over.

Being in sales...it can be stressful. One good month is never enough, always gotta look forward. An while I get paid fairly well for my age and position, I can always up that with commission. So even when in doing well, I could be one sale from a much bigger payday.

Then there's the days I come back from lunch to 7 voicemails and 30 new emails that are all long to deal with.

Different levels of stress that usually aren't bad. I can't complain much, its a lot better than the job I had 4 years ago.
