Fuck off.
It winds me up when we're told as performers we have some moral duty to stay for the entire show we're playing.
Example:
The gig started at 3pm. We've been here since 1:30, which means I left home before noon to get to the studio and grab all my things before heading over to the venue. We're on at 6:30, say. Off stage by 7:15. I'll be fucked if I'm going to stand there in a venue that smells of the toilets for another four hours before loading out and getting home after midnight, unless there's a band I want to see coming up.
Life's too short for that kind of shit. I don't care if other bands stay or leave for our set, they've all came to do a job. I've played gigs where all the people in the room are in other bands that are on the bill. I promise you never make fans that way, because they're all, including me, going to be too wrapped up in their own project.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you should be a dick to other bands. Be friendly, make friends, appreciate good music, help each other out. But when it's time to leave, go without shame.
Here ends today's sermon.
