I had to post this since I find it relevant.

No one is having kids anymore? Do you agree?

I do. My fiance and I have no intention of having children for a while. Lot of our friends are the same way. We all want to make $$$, travel and pretty much fuck off for a number of years first.

How about you? I remember a thread back in the day on HCAF where a dude from edinburgh said his wife and him didn't want to have kids so he could buy a motorcycle and a car and travel. He pretty much got the piss kicked out of him for it. Do people still feel this way?

Is it selfish to want to just blow money on yourself instead of squirting kids out? :bring:

I think it's less selfish than all the poor fucks who can't afford kids...but have tons of them anyway.

My wife and I found the best of both worlds (imo)...we both got careers going and spent 10 years alone before deciding to have a kid (who will likely be our only).

my kids are raised (and almost out) so I am ready for the freedom.

youngest two are 21

I would never say anyone HAS to have kids - but it is something I wouldn't trade for anything

Yes, but is it selfish to forgo kids so that you can travel the world and buy new cars, motorcycles, whatever.

Selfish to whom?

The unborn child?

The people who would at some point have to be behind them on the interstate or in line at the store?

Not sure I understand the "selfish" aspect.

somewhat - but not to the point that it makes you a bad person.

you may not be giving as much back to the human legacy - especially if you focus all your money/time on hedonism, but nothing says you have to procreate.

and personally I think you are robbing yourself of some of the greatest joys available.

I've never understood where this "selfish" argument comes from personally. That's just a dumb thing to say IMO.

Having kids is selfish. There are plenty of people in this world without you making more.

I've got some Mormon family who would tell you you're robbing yourself of some of the greatest joys available by having fewer than a dozen offspring.

This. We already have so many that the world can't sustain it, but it's selfish to NOT want kids!?!? Personally I don't know why you WOULD want kids. Give up all your freedom, money, and peace for constant stress and burden!?? No thanks!!

All my friends/family that have kids are always stressed, broke, and miserable. Meanwhile those that don't are happy and carefree. I've noticed just watching the public in general that people with kids almost always seem stressed and unhappy.

Also a few couples I know with kids are only together because of the kids. They don't get along (probably from the stress of having kids) and don't really want to be together. What kind of life is that!?!?

I don't its selfish not to have kids at all. Some people shouldn't have kids.

I have a son and it makes me proud and happy, works for me. But I waited until I was in my 30's and I spent my 20's not wanting kids.

And Craig (yourguitarhero) is a pretty cool guy feeding Scotland with his fine hot dogs. He is not selfish at all.

Until you have kids you will never understand it. I felt the same as you when I was much younger. But you are just looking at a negative side that is not there for most people.

The best way I can explain it, having a child fills a void you never knew was there. It gives you a sense of purpose. It is fun and brings a lot of joy. It works for me, I never thought it would so I am surprised myself to be honest.
But if you don't want kids, then don't I would never preach to any one and tell them they have too.

same here.. my wife and I are in a holding pattern when it comes to having kids, we want kids but the condo we bought is being built right now so we are trying to dump as much money in to that as possible to get lower mortgage payments later on and we know if we have a kid that plan will be next to impossible to do. After we move in to the place and get settled then the baby making can start...

Meh. I don't care about having kids. If I do they will be an accident and I'm pretty damn careful. Its a financial and emotional burden I don't want. I feel no need to make a legion of little me's running around causing further havoc, ruining the environment.

Every shitty or disappointing person you will ever meet was someones kid. Imagine putting all that investment into someone, crippling yourself in the process, for them to be a waste of cum?

I am ethically, financially and socially opposed to children. I find it extremely unfortunate I was one, and find it furthermore unfortunate that most people were, as well.

I can only speak with myself, and I can say I don't regret having a kid. But to each their own.

It is stupid, however, to think that kids keep you from having nice things. If you are (even relatively) successful, you can have both. If you're broke, kids do make it worse, but you're fucked either way.

For example, to keep on with the title of this thread, I believe CharvelDan has no kids. He's still fucked.

Bill Gates, on the other hand, had 3. He still can buy us all out of this planet.

One thing has nothing to do with other.

Is it less worse to contribute to an affair if the married couple has no kids? Are they more like open-game compared to full families?

Having kids hasn't made me any richer but it sure has made my life better! It is good to learn not to be selfish.

This doesn't make any sense.

You:
"I wanted something I didn't have...so I did whatever I had to do to get it, now I have it. That means I'm not selfish."

People who don't want kids:
"I don't want something I don't have...so that makes me selfish."

:freak:

Dude, lighten up. I just said that having kids helped ME to become less selfish and that I consider being less selfish a good thing. Raising kids right means putting yourself at least second (sometimes third) but you are still there and part of the equation. Once in while, I get to be first and my kids are right there with me.

At no point would call non-parents selfish but I have yet to meet many that haven't admitted to being "too selfish" to have kids. Just my two cents.
