im doing some comic-book style art of a friend and figured itd be cool to through some outside opinion in it.
so say you have someone fighting a gigantic robot (think pacific rim, xmen sentinel, mechwarrior) in the foreground. one of the giant mech's appendages in the far foreground is smashing cracks into a rocky outcropping just peeking in from the bottom, and there is unidentifiable debris, presumably rocks and dirt, coming from the raised other, implying it had done the same. so presumably the ground is rock and dirt. there are some birds circling the top of the mech due to convey size, so presumably its outside.
so give me some suggestions for background within those parameters. what do you want to see behind a huge battlemech? nuclear wasteland? bustling metropolis? scenic vista? timmy's 8th birthday party? charveldan pr0n? lets hear them suggestions, comic book fans.

Somewhere off to the side, inconspicuous ala Sergio Aragonés style, depict a backyard glory hole scenario, albeit failing miserably.

This is the answer. Here's some inspiration for what that might look like:

this is exactly what i was going to say

this is true, they are just sort of in the sky, not in extreme proximity.

it looks like they sell them individually too, the copics. im not a comic artist. i draw occasionally, and i would love to get into that kind of illustration, mostly for show posters, but this is my first piece, so im not going all out supply shopping. i do want to star though. heres what im working with. overboard with the hatch shading, etc., but whatever. im new to the style.

I've heard bits and pieces, would really like to know the real story.

yeah this is totally a one off, like a cover. i was reading up a lot on some of the techniques (after i drew this, go figure) today and learning how they use detail or lack thereof to keep large volumes going efficiently and without interruping story flow, and using al sort sof motifs and page design to keep the eye moving. an awesome art form that i was into as a kid, which got me into drawing, but which i really only used for drawing dicks on things, albeit detailed and magnificent ones, to prank people.

How about a geodesic dome with buildings inside?

could be cool...
thinking something maybe middle-distance, and its kind of an upwards angle. but i was considering some futuristic elements like that. these are battling robots after all.
if any of yall noticed the joke, this is for our old drummer. the deal was, spend extra on indiegogo for the 7" vinyl, get a signed copy and a piece of custom artwork done by a member of one of the groups involved. he knows i draw, and we go way back. he said i want mike to do it, and it want it to be a robo cougar vs a robo cougar. ba-dump, splash! just realized who the chick robot looks like though

decided to go with a near-future city, with a far back skyline, and a mid-background facility with a SETI-like antennae on it. will post when done.

Sounds rad! I like the drawing above! Takes me back to the good ol' days when I didn't have to worry about things like responsibility.

Like when I used to sit around and draw and read comics and shit. Not that it looks like an 8 year old drew it.

Seriously though, I think its rad.
