Headed over Cascades to meet my family for several days of camping when my coolant system went out. Took an hour and a half before I could limp along and find cel service. Got hold of AAA finally and am now waiting for tow truck.

Did I mention that I have my acoustic bass and guitar with me? And we are having near record heat?

my radiator exploded in the middle of a dust tsunami in el paso. that feel.

hope you weren't a dummy like someone i know  and try to pour water in before it had cooled completely....while looking down the fucking tube with your face

also mojo for the root cause being something relatively cheap (i.e. radiator isnt fucked, thermostat is just stuck, not a blown head gasket causing it)

in other words, if the shops ays its 1200 for a new pump, radiator etc., make sure they do a damn compression test.

Yeah. I hate paying for car repairs. At least we currently have Dave Ramsey approved emergency fund.

Maybe you just blew a belt. Obviously, the one that spins the pump.

One time in my truck I was hauling ass down a highway and it was 110+ out.

I was cruising along being awesome (as I always am) and notice my temperature guage rocketing up. Wtf I think.

Then, I goto stop, and all of a sudden as I turn off the road I notice my steering now feels like I'm turning monster truck tires with no assistance. At that point I realize my belt snapped because my water pump and power steering pump are both offline at the same time.

Sweet. Randomly, my brother by chance comes hauling ass around the corner in his jeep. I haven't a clue why he was out there, but he was.

Life saved. That feel.

No. I'm basically right between the only real vestiges of civilization out here. Tow truck is coming from about 35 miles away.

Fuuuuuuuu...

That's always crappy feeling!

We had to ditch a car in Laramie Wyoming and take a rental for the rest of vacation once.

Not the most fun vacation ever.

Actually a pressure test would work way better, it actually tests the coolant system.

It could be a sticky thermostat, a blocked radiator, a slipping belt, a failed water pump, insufficient coolant, chupacabras, leaky radiator hose etc....

What kinda car do you have, Yarb? These days you're just as likely to have a single serpentine belt which spins pretty much everything. Had that happen in my Expy while towing a camper on the way for a weekend retreat. It's pretty obvious when that sorta thing happens: battery light comes on, power steering quits, temp goes sky high.

It just so happened that one of my friends had to leave the weekend a bit earlier than us and decided to drive separately - not only that, but decided to wait to follow us rather than to meet everyone else who was waiting on us (I had to get the electric brakes checked out) and I was thankful he did - hopped in the car with him and 20 minute drive to the nearest parts store.

Mojo sent Yarb, hope everything goes well

Turns out it was just a loose hose! $60 has to be the cheapest car repair in history. Totally worth the 200 mile round trip to pick it up. :thu:

Really happy to hear it was something completely inconsequential.
