Moving Windows 7 to a new computer

Bought a new PC and want to install the 64 bit Windows 7 from my purchased license. I've got the CDs and key. How hard is it to move the OS to a new PC. I just have a feeling Microsoft will only fuck with me on this. Anyone done this before?

Do you have an OEM license or just a "rescue" disk like you get with a Dell/HP/Lenovo/<insert vendor here> machine? If you have an OEM license it should be OK - back up your data to a USB drive or whatever, install OS on new computer, restore data.
If it's a rescue disk it probably won't work (they generally need to detect a current install with the same key). Just putting the hard drive in the new box probably won't work either with that whole UEFI boot thing, and the new machine will have a different GUID.

i wish i had the cash to just buy whatever the absolute top of the line hardware was at any given moment. something new comes out, buy it immediately. donate my still-top-of-the-line unit to someone. mac, windows, whatever...
i just hate computer problems. so goddamned much.

I do have a full purchased Professional license. I installed it and the fucker didn't take my code but assigned it's own with a 30 day warning. Guess I'll have to call these fucktarts. Believe me, the second partition will have Mint on it. I only use Microshit for support on my job

May I suggest doing a full install of Mint, then running your Win 7 in a VM using VMware workstation or Virtualbox? The caveat there is that you're sharing resources with the Linux and Windows machines, and VMware workstation/Virtualbox cannot provide direct access to hardware, so you can't get full DirectX support with a VM. Depends what apps you need to run on the Windows box I guess. I have to run win7 for my work computer as well... it annoys the shit out of me.
