I heard about it the other day and there are some pics out now. I wasn't expecting to like it, but they look pretty cool tbh..

They also have some new EVH Stars that are super rad IMO

yeah I was super excited about the Stars but I just can't with the Danelectro headstock. I know that's how Ed did it but goddamn it's ugly

Damn yeah I only saw the headstock-less pic before lol. I was just assuming it would have the 5150 banana stock

they really need to fix this. I understand the history behind it but come on.
I've been looking for a 2nd Star and I would be all over this one if it wasn't for the headstock.

Bummer about tthat Damelectro neck. Cause those look great. Some of you may know I build an original Era correct Star! And I have some coming with the banana headstock. I can do more of a pointy Charvel headstock,. Strat headstock… lol. Any of em except the danelectro cause that ruins those for sure. Otherwise they would have been on my radar…. Oh well, I’ll just keep building em. Should have one ready to show coming up here soon. Built for a buddy of mine.

Those are awesome! I even like the Dano headstock. But fuck that fucking killswitch shit.

Yeah I don't use a killswitch but it doesn't bother me, although I'd want it in a more neutral color than red, but that's easy to change.
I love the Star shape though. I have a Jackson here that is one of my favorite guitars. It started out as one of the cheap Gus G signature, but I had my tech do a full fret dressing and put on a new graptech nut so it plays as well as my other guitars (it wasn't bad stock tbh, but he took it to another level). Then I installed the EMG Super 77 set I bought from EndTime, upgraded all the hardware to black TonePros and Gotoh tuners. So really the only thing that is completely stock is the body, everything else has been upgraded.

Frankenstein without stripes drew me in but I can't stand the chopped pickguard or janky fitting pickups look. They look like a 15 year old built a guitar and jammed them in there any which way and screwed them to the body with sheetrock screws.
I get that's the historic look. I think the stripes helped distract me from every other ugly thing about those guitars.
No pickguard and normally mounted pickups and I would love those.

If that Star had an explorer or pointy headstock I’d be all about it. As it is, hard pass.

That's
literally how it happened

except Ed was 22 when he did it
Honestly, if I buy one, I think I'd put a full pickguard in it but I'd keep the original too just in case...

I mean, yeah.. I build a great star.. I had an old school Charvel that I made templates for and is exact to what Eddie actually used too.. These actually aren't true to that design, Even Billy's, am not saying someone wouldn't like that, but there is one specific thing in these that I think changes how they play, or I should say, change it from the original and also what I personally think plays better.. It may be small to some but its actually a big deal to me.. they exchange it for a little better upper fret access.. So I suppose one has to weigh that.. But the originals were 21 fret, and after all these years I honestly realize I dontt need more than 21 frets.. 22 is fine.. 24 honestly throughs me off these days.. But I digress, Its not even about the frets. Thats just what they did. But the main thing for me is to do that they moved the bridge *forward* towards the neck when they added these extra frets.. Which puts the 1st fret FARTher out and also moves the bridge to an area where there is less *meat" from the edge. One's wrist has less of an anchor to sit on.. The original star feels more like a V cause the bridge is nearly to the *end* of the center of the guitar. And your arm and wrist sit in a similar position as a V... Some of these newer ones with the extra frets and moved bridge feel odd and feel like your wrist is off the guitar a bit. And that really effects my playing. Especially more intense playing, whether it be rhythm or leads... An original star with 21 frets or a 22 fret overhang extension doesn't have the best upper fret access, but the bridge location makes it play way more comfortable and also makes it feel more like a Strat when standing as far as how far your fret hand goes.. Cause when they move that bridge, like I said, it also moves that first fret farther away and it makes them play like an ODD shape.. The original star feel way more familiar and comfortable than it may look to those who haven't played one..
.. If anyone really wants one without that stupid headstock.. Hopefully this forum should know by now I build a mighty fine instrument. And being I don't work full time as a contractor anymore, I have a little more free time for builds....

Interesting. I did notice the bridge position on my guitar being different than the originals almost immediately when I got it.
I like the way it plays, but it's certainly different than the originals, which I've also played. The originals don't feel much different than a Charvel superstrat, despite the body shape. Mine feels more like a 25.5" Explorer. Completely different.
Given that mine is a signature model so it's possible that Gus G asked it to be that way. His previous model (with ESP) was also like this and he probably just carried the specs over to Jackson.
But yeah the original is different. Easy to see on Chris Holmes Stars, which also uses a TOM

The bridge is closer to the end of the body than on mine.
I may hit you up later this year for a Star build. I've been thinking about getting a second one.

I'll be thinking of this, patiently waiting in the wings for life to be in a spot where it makes sense to do this, and then hit you up on that I think. Would be good for one "oddball" guitar to exist in my life, and I already have a hard lean to that era and style of instrument.

Could you imagine the Mr. Limpet can opener headstock on the star?

Yeah it’s very clear and one should be able to imagine having that extra body “room” next to the bridge adds a better anchor for your wrist and even forearm. When my wrist is off the guitar it’s hard for ME to stay consistent and accurate with my picking. Feels like your playing in air a little bit
I brought it up cause I’m smack dab in the middle of a pretty sweet Star build, but also I’ve messed around with mine to get better upper fret access without changing too much and I think I accomplished it! It does require a bit of body modification, but most who’ve seen it think it looks pretty cool. Even better in some regard.
I just remember when the Charvel Desolation series came out and that wasn’t a HIGH end guitar but it was pretty decent. And the shop I know work had a bunch and it took me a sec to figure out why I just couldn’t bond with it and it was the bridge location.
Cause, for me, when you take all the parameters of the Star into account, it’s a perfect guitar! Haha. It can be played sitting in classical position like you would with a V, or on top of the thigh like a Les Paul. Each way sits comfortable. And when it’s the old school shape and bridge location, and I’m repeating, the fret hand position feels the same as a Strat. Whereas other odd shapes like a V can get you left hand out further. And also this came from the PV luthiers who built the Wolfgang. And it’s just another example but one of the things they mentioned was moving the neck inwards a bit to bring the fret hand in compared to the Music Man. And if you look at pics with Eddie and his music man, you can just see what they mean cause his stance and hand position just LOOk further away. So the Wolfgang, it’s only like a 1/2 inch or so, but it’s moved in closer. And it’s those little things that I’m all about finding and dialing in on any design.
So yeah, same concept with these Stars. They went the opposite way, which generally, unless you a really big guy, most wouldn’t want to move their hand further out….
Anyway, these would have ruled with a different headstock. Cause I think the colors and even the kill switch look killer!!
And thanks Devin!

Really think these need those stripes. It's like a shelby mustang without the racing stripes.

Yeah I like the white one. Honestly I don't care about the Frankenstein thing at all. I mean, I like it when Eddie played it, but that's his guitar. What I like about this is it's a superstrat with a top mounted Floyd and the EVH neck profile. I would probably put a full strat pickguard if I got one and essentially make it my own guitar instead of a copy of Eddie's. But these are solid bones to build up on.

Yeah, I agree. A hockey stick/explorer type headstock and id have one on order.
