Brought out my other cab that has basically been my other guitar players cab for the last while, but its still great and has g12k100 with g12-65 speakers.. I honestly like how both sound, but I just mic'd the g12-65 in this clip of Orion.. Was too busy jamming to worry about the song I wanted to work on, so I basically was just flipping thru some recordings that I could get done quickly and Orion felt about right..

Its the evh Blu channel hit with the Protone cor Mid Boost.. sm7b on the speaker going thru Golden Age Premier Pre-73... Its the standalone unit.. Little sidebar, Ive been really impressed with this thing.. For $500 or whatever it was, it does what I hoped it would..

Speakers.. Change everything! But thanks. I do dig the tone A lot. It’s a fair bit different than the cab with the Evh Celestions which are just a bit “bouncier” I guess. I was gonna say juic’ier, lol. But I really don’t want to say that.

This is my 3rd golden age. At first I got just thev73 jr. Just the pre section and I didn’t love it. Sold it pretty quick. Felt like the bottom end was really restrained and the whole “Neve” thing was the bigness I figured. Then I tried their 500 series of their pre. 573 I imagine it was. Again. Didn’t love it. But also I found it used at GC and idk, I honestly thought suMthin might be wrong with it.
Then I just bought an actual Neve, the 511, pre, and there was the sound I imagined one would get.. But then you have all those who say the ACTUAL Rupert Neve stuff isn’t as true as his original. I’m gonna dispel that, cause the 511 gets all the “Neve” one would want! Hah.

But because of that, I said, one last chance with the “high end” Premier of the Golden age. This is the standalone unit, so some claim it’s about the power supply of 500 series not capturing that bigness. Plus this is supposed to have upgraded transformers. Etc etc. And finally I found the Golden Age that delivers as it definitely has a big sound to it. The few little options like air boast and Low Z, also DI and it’s definitely the one I use most these days..

But I compared my 511 to it pretty extensively, and I can get them to deliver that same big soundstage..

sounds cool. if i had to pick one speaker to record with i think it would be the 1265, seems to get what im looking for the easiest. i really gotta a/b my few different preamps as well, never really did a direct comparison. im not even really sure the "proper" way to use a 1073, i usually leave the gain on 35 and then just use to trim to level

Being too lazy to Google... what's a 1265? Is it the 65w Creamback or something else?

Yeah those. Obviously I have the re-issues. But they seem to be well regarded as a proper re-issue.

Yeah these speakers were a favorite of Mutt Lange for his recordings. I wouldn’t be surprised if they showed up on High and Dry and Pyromania by Def Leppard.
