I have left the land of homelessness and high gas prices

It hurt me to leave my home town - born/raised and lived there my whole life, but it was hurting me more to stay.

I now live where everything is bigger. Checked my drawers when I crossed the state line and sure enough.

Where in Texas? Texas can be either epic or extremely shitty..
But yeah I don't regret leaving CA at all. It really stopped being fun around 2005... it's too overcrowded now. Which is good for me since I have real estate investments there

But as far as living, I can see myself staying around DC/Bmore for a long time. I love it here.

Enjoy the BBQ and local brewed brew. I miss living in Texas at times and boy are the ladies easy (if you're single). I hope you enjoy your stay.

Welcome fellow carpet bagger.

It’s not without its problems but I’ve got zero regrets about moving here.
Can’t say I’ll be here for super long but it’s great for now. Here’s to hoping you moved somewhere with semi affordable real estate.

I moved to one of Houston’s southern burbs. We have family nearby, it’s pretty and clean here, people are friendly and polite, the teens aren’t all depressed and miserable, affordable housing, lots of jobs, and this school district is one of the best in the state.

I start a job on Monday making the most I’ve ever made and we’re paying hundreds less on rent and getting way more i.e. moving from a townhome to a house with about 500 more sq ft plus a yard, lower cost of living… no bums and shootings at the local park, no harassing threats to kick my kids out of school if they’re not experimented on and other such intolerable bullshit. Last I’ll say about that.

One of my biggest reasons is I look back at my early adulthood and I was able to afford a one bedroom apartment on a modest better than minimum income when I was 20 in Los Angeles. I’m looking at my soon to be young adult teens and that shit is a fucking fantasy for them.

This was a great move. The heat and humidity is an adjustment but I tolerate weather on both ends of the extremes well. I’m sure there’s gonna be other cons that will stack up a bit on the list, but there are reasons why people are leaving CA and NY in droves.

The future just got a lot brighter for the fam.

Be sure to berate any other transplants you run across that try to bring their failed bullshit to our state. :fap:

Nice, Houston is great. I agree with most of your points. They were primarily the reasons I moved out too. I got out of there in 2015, so before most of the recent events, but cost of living and especially the overcrowding and traffic were getting on my nerves.

On the other hand, my son Brandon loves L.A. because he grew up there for the most part and all of his childhood friends are there ,so he decided to move back to LA (from Vegas) a few months ago. He's making good money and living with 2 of his best friends as roommates so he's having a great time and his costs are not awful. I told him he will eventually get tired of it but wtf do I know

I’m happy to not be one of those and take a spot that would have otherwise been occupied by one of them. :D

I grew up on the extreme outskirts of Houston until I was 10 years old. If you can take the heat and humidity in August, you'll be ok for the rest of the year. Main difference between the heat and humidity there vs. S. Florida is when it rains in S. Texas, sometimes it rains for days on end. I remember seeing VWs floating down the street when I was a kid. My dad wouldn't let me go outside and play in the water because there were water moccasins in the yard. Put the A/C repair or landlord # on speed dial, just in case. I've had to do four Augusts in Florida without A/C. You do not want to experience that.

Yup. Met the landlord’s maintenance guy yesterday who did all the work updating the house before they put it up for rent. There were a couple things that needed to be finished/adjusted and he took care of them quick. Cool dude and we’re in contact.

I've noticed two things. First is people honking when the light turns green. We're talking thousandths of seconds. Second is people standing like an inch away in lines. We used to like to give each other elbow space in Florida. This isn't Manhattan.

 Yup. L.A. and N.Y. drivers pretty much just honk as soon as the light goes green as an involuntary muscle twitch.

Hit the nail right on the head. The only way to make it work in L.A. and other similar high cost areas for young adults is to A) be shacked up in a relationship or B) have roommates. Neither of those are an ideal long term plan for most. Couples break up more than they stay together and having roommates sucks eventually unless it’s a rare blend of homies. Still gets old eventually in both cases.

Whether they take it or not I want them to at least have the chance of an independent young adulthood. I think it’s an important part of figuring out who you really are.

Best of luck to you!

I used to have in-laws in Houston. I'm not a cold weather person so I enjoyed those x-mas visits there with the temps in the 80's. Cool town. It gave us Billy Gibbons.

I dream of a utopia where everyone moves out of CA and there is no traffic, so I appreciate your help in getting a few more cars off the road, Mike.

Like I said in my text, super stoked for you and your fam on your new adventure! You will be missed, but its good to know I have a hommie in Houston.
