Man those news articles aren't kidding when they're talking about now being a good time to consider new employment.
I'll start with a TLDR: Accepted a new job with a 32%+ pay bump and a company car. Its a position I want at the company I most want to do it for.
NonTLDR:
Awhile back when discussing with a close personal friend/former colleague I decided what my next career move would be position wise. From there I laid out what would be some companies in the industry I would like to do that work for, I came up with 5. From those 5 I ranked them from a level of quality of their product but also how the people I had brushed up against in the industry came off, were they happy? Did they seem to know their stuff? Etc.
Now I've been pretty happy at my current company so I figured I'd wait a few years before seeking anything out. I'm paid well and treated well but there's ultimately I've kind of maxed out the space for growth.
But about 5 months ago I interviewed at a company that was #3 on that list for the role I was looking for. This opportunity just so happened to come my way so I figured why not look into it. Ultimately they decided to shift the position from something more technical to sales so it fell through after a series of a few interviews. All for the best in the end because even before it got pulled away I was leaning against it. My current work/life balance is amazing and this position seemed like a lot of work.
Fast forward to about a month ago and I get contacted about a similar role but its for #1 on my list. Interviews go awesome and they flew me into HQ earlier this week. The facility is great and everyone I deal with is great too. The newest guy I talk to had been with the company for 10 years and in the history of the team I'm joining they've only ever had one person quit. Point being is its all green flags. They gave me a technical test while I was there and I crushed it (it was honestly quite easy). Their only concerns after that day was that I might get bored or that my job would counter offer. Given that I'm really focused on being a dad right now boredom professionally sounds wonderful. My industry (controls engineering) is inherently challenging and at 18 years in some boredom sounds like a nice change of pace. Further I've taken a counter offer in the past and have realized that even if my current company would match it long term it just wouldn't work out because they just can't offer as much in total (beyond the total comp) as this new company and role.
Offer received and accepted today with my salary requirements (I was shooting high) fully met.
Still a bit in shock to be honest to be landing what is exactly what I want in everyway for my next career move. So many good perks and just the right change in every way including potential for even greater growth in the future. Tentatively starting on 7/5 and I cannot fucking wait.
Anyway trying to keep this quiet generally until I give my official notice on Monday but I'm excited and had to share it somewhere so I figured I'd share it with you degenerates.
Cheers ya'll.
