BOTR 2022 Rules and Discussion Thread

All right GGF! It's that time again!

These are the rules:

Please post pictures of your rig ready to go, wired up, passing signal. Passing signal should be a clear link between instrument and amps for the amp categories (if your boards are in those rigs then signal should pass through those). For the pedal boards we are asking that we can see pedals on (not necessarily all) and cables going into and out of the board. If you have a wireless unit please ensure we can see something plugged into a guitar and the wireless receiver on. If your amp has a standby it can be in the standby position as volume may be an issue depending on where and when you’re taking said pics. As long as I see that the amp is on, we’re good (plus flipping off standby isn’t really a hard thing to do at a gig).

This is not a "gear collection" contest. It's all about the RIG.
Maximum of 2 guitars in the rig picture. For the same reason as above.
Pictures used on previous BOTRs will not be allowed. Please take a new picture for this contest. If you would like to do Rig Rundown videos for your categories those are also encouraged and accepted. Have some fun with this.
You can enter multiple categories if you have different rigs. But only one entry per category is allowed. For example if you have a combo and a 1/2 stack you can enter both categories. If you have 2 half-stacks, pick your best one and enter once in that category. The one exception to this the stereo/WDW/multi amp category.

Best Vintage Rig is returning. To qualify, only the head or combo must be from the 1980s or earlier. If you have a vintage guitar to go along with said amp and cab for more authenticity by all means include it. This is open to combos and head/cabs. So as not to double dip the exact same rig in multiple categories, please enter the vintage rig only in the vintage rig category.

The post threads will be open Tuesday May 31st until Monday July 11th 12PM PDT. After that point Billy or I will lock the post threads and create voting polls.
Voting starts on the 12th and goes until Tuesday July 19th. 7 days should be enough for voting.
The winners of each category will then compete for "Best Overall Rig of 2022" From July 20th to July 26th.

Individual prize winners will be put into a drawing to win 1 of 2 5 packs of Slagle Strings.

For our Grand Prize we are actually going to have a pool. Grand prize gets first pick of one item, second prize gets the next, third prize gets the remaining. They are:

Way Huge Atreides Weirding Module donated by GGF member Ajaxlepinski.
Mesa MC90 donated by GGF member Dave.
Behringer U-Phoria UCM22 USB Interface by GuitarBilly
Nash Pedals 808 overdrive donated by duncan
iRig Pre donated by DBN

If anyone has anything else they want to toss into the Grand Prize pool, feel free to let me know.

Contest is open to all GGF members with 10 posts or more.
Creating alts for voting purposes will automatically disqualify you, not to mention you will also get some days off.
Inviting new members to join and vote is not only allowed, it is encouraged! Help spread the word about GGF!

Finally, please keep the post threads for gear pictures only and take all the discussion to this thread. That will keep things easier.

Remind me what the rules are around multiple cabs in the head/cab category. Is it just one cab?

Yeah I have plenty of strings left. Encouraging people to try the 10-52's!! Some of those need to move if possible.

Just a thought, to make it more economical for shipping and to make it a little more fun... what about doing like 2 packages of 5 sets of strings each and randomizing all of the participants and the top 2 win.

I'm gonna figure out something to donate and would like for it to be randomized among everyone.

Nope. If you have 2 cabs, like a full stack for example (not the only example) you can do that. It’s not limited to one cab per head.

Can do on the randomized item. Not sure about the 5 packs because we always try to have a base item for individual category winners and it’s usually the strings. I know postage/shipping is stupid right now but I can cover costs on those. It’s no worry.

I don't mind copping for some shipping too but $4 shipping for 1 pack x 10 or however many kinda adds up. But however it shakes down I'm happy to help.

Everyone joins in for just the fun of it anyway.. I'm kinda liking the idea of prizes being sprung out randomly among participants rather than winning categories. Just a thought...

I basically repeated what you said. Sorry reading comprehension is bad. Yes we can do that.

If you also have a mystery prize to be eligible for all random participants, let me know if we want to do that.

Here let's do it by fair/average market value.

If you found a '59 Burst for $300 and a '68 Plexi for $500 for example, I am super happy for you but that's not an entry for budget rig. Thanks!! :thu:

What's the rule on switchers / loopers - do they count as a pedal, or no? Trying to ensure I post my boards in their proper categories.

As far as I understand, if it's in one enclosure, it's one pedal - and this includes footswitches, loopers, etc.

does that include an interface/junction box? if that's the case I'll have to pull my board from the small board category

I don’t think we ever counted anything if it didn’t have an actual footswitch on it. If it’s a pass through box or power supply I can’t say I counted those.
