Great albums especially loving the latest material. Been listening to his solo stuff for years.

Great guitar player, vastly underrated singer. His harmony vocals are the only worthwhile listening on 95% of RCHP recordings in the last two decades.

He does have great vocals. I'm glad he keeps going in different directions with the music. I look forward to his next album/projects.

His lyrics over the last decade have been really cool as well, especially the abstract stuff.

Oddly enough, just got done reading Scar Tissue. Good read to a point, but after awhile, it got old reading the same "oh there goes Kiedis relapsing again" stories. I used to LOVE RHCP, but after Californication, I just got burnt out. They seem to have lost their fire. Frusciante's vox are the indeed the best thing vocally in years, but they just have no energy anymore. I have not heard anything off of the latest beyond the first single, but the level of playing ability in the new guy seems severely lacking in comparison. They have a John stays/John leaves/John comes back cycle. I am hoping if and when he comes back, he drops the Beach Boys addiction and gets back in the fold and wants to rock again. As cliche as that may sound :)

^ sorry for the derail into RHCP land. Seemed relevant to my reading interests at the moment

Josh is quite a different guitarist. He has a cool style but I think taking over from someone with so much love from people like Frusciante is an uphill struggle. There are a couple of songs on the new album I like, and I do like By the way. But his solo stuff gets much more of my attention.

I am in the (un)fortunate(?) position of being into them since the beginning. They were so spazzy and amazing at first then metamorphasized into this funk monster by BSSM. I loved it! Then Frusciante went the way he went and they ended up with Navarro. Great guitarist, not great for RHCP imo. I tried a few different times to get into Frusciante solo stuff but I found it a little too abstract for my tastes. He went so far down the rabbit hole it is amazing he is still alive and making music. He has style and chops for days, though they took a turn in a direction I am probably a little too musically shallow to enjoy to be honest.

Love this track. So reflective and gets me feeling several things at once.

Actually, I thought it was really good. I listened to some of Shadows Collide with People and really enjoyed it as well. Some of the production choices and tones were a little out there for me, but the songwriting was a lot stronger than I expected. The last time I tried checking out anything solo he released was right after he quit the Chilis and the interview videos showing him strung out came out. I am not sure of the timeline, I just know I watched the videos, listened to a few things and went "ewwwww" in a over-judgemental fashion :) I hope he is staying clean as he is a great musician.

I love love love By The Way, which was basically a John "solo record", according to Flea. He's an incredible guitarist and I really love pretty much anything he does.
Big fan.

In another thread you posted a vid of the full new album....that first song made me shut it off, and I'm a Frusciante fan :(

Just rewatched Under the Bridge SNL performance. I remembered watching it when it first aired and going "WOW". In a very bad way. I can't say my opinion on that has changed lol :) The howling John does at the end is priceless in the worst possible of ways...

I was a little bit unsure about the new record but it's grown on me.

Curtains, The Empyrean, The Will To Death etc are all amazing records. John is a monster of a songwriter, vocalist, guitarist, keyboard player and pretty much everything else.

I'm feeling pretty bad about myself right now because I was not aware of his solo work, but I am really enjoying some of the stuff I'm finding right now.
