I've been waiting ages to be able to get one of these. I could just about afford it! I ordered it from www.crushthebutton.com. It was shipped on Tuesday and arrives today (Thursday). From Belgium to UK; I am impressed.

I've been on a 'search for Orange dirt in a box' for a couple of years now and I have been through a few pedals that claim to do this. I currently have the OLC Orange Peel which is more of a vintage low gain overdrive than an 'in your face' hi gain orange sound. It is a great pedal nonetheless! I have done a bit of research and the EQD Monarch came up, but it seems to sound almost 'Orange ampy' at lower gain settings and has its own flavour where high gain is concerned. The Tech 21 Oxford is probably a slightly further step away from the sound; and the AMT Orange pedals don't seem to get anywhere near that sound in my opinion.

Now as for the Wampler... I am very impressed with this thing. It is one particular flavour and that is Orange crunchy overdrive to hi gain. I think this is the closest I will get without actually buying an Orange high gain amp (which has also been an option, but I decided I'm not too keen on the cleaner Orange amp tones. I don't dislike them, but compared to the cleans I can get out of my Laney IRT60H, it doesn't come close to what I want.

Cool. It's surprising there aren't more pedals doing the "vintage Orange" thing, since getting the real thing is cost-prohibitive for most people.

I have the EQD Monarch and it does the OR120/Matamp GT120 thing pretty well. From my limited experience playing those two amps, the Monarch is a little closer to the Matamp, but not quite as clear... I would think if you are looking for a straight up vintage rock tone maybe it's not the best "orange in a box" option but for wooly doom tones it's great.

I have the OLC Orange Peel which sounds like a 70's vintage drive channel. A very cool sound (check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0lQ5FwBKGI )

The Orange Peel and the Crush the button have come the closest out of the pedals I've tried to that Orange sound. The Monarch is great and sounds close at low gain levels, but has its own flavour. I wouldn't mind getting one at some point! The Tech 21 Oxford and the AMT pedals seem even further a field.

It'd be cool to try out several against each other!

And throw in an actual vintage Orange amp to see how they all stack up to what they're trying to emulate.

Yeah defo. Although it depends on the amp. Perhaps a vintage Orange amp and a thunderverb or rockrverb.

Very cool! That thing sounds great man.

I always hear about Wampler's stuff and how good it is, but never had a chance to try any of their stuff myself.

I have an EQD monarch, which is perfectly fine for my purposes, but dang that CtB sounds awesome! :thu:

The Monarch is a really cool pedal.

Yeah the Crush the button is expensive, but I think it is worth it. There is only a limited number of them around as well, and I felt after waiting months that I should just bite the bullet and get it. I also have the OLC Orange Peel, it sounds like a 70's orange grit (well the settings I have it on at the moment). The graphic is cool as well.

This pedal would have been handy for recording purposes, shame I sold it.

Just curious about your experience with the AMT....did you run it through an EL34 poweramp? Running it in to the power section of a 6L6 driven modern high gainer could certainly influence the tone. My AMT R1 always sounded best running in to my Prosonic, which is basically a 60 watt recto-ish amp

That said maybe they really did miss the mark on the orange model; I've never tried that one

you know, I'm not the biggest fan of Orange... at all... but that pedal, that combination in your vid there, sounded pretty damned decent! HNPD!!!

Thanks dude. That is the best 'Orange in a box' you will find on the market today.
