Made a batch of Finnish coffee cake (aka Pulla Bread) from my Grandmother's recipe. 4 HOURS OF WORK!!!! My Grandmother was a better man than I'll ever be!!!

Awesome. I've been baking up a storm the past few weeks. Have a rustic bread recipe that's pretty good. Started a sourdough starter last week and put together a dough Friday night, baked it Saturday:

Tons of work, but so freaking good.
Using cast-off from the starter I've also made biscuits (buttermilk recipe with starter instead of buttermilk) and sourdough buns, that are essentially little loaves of sourdough bread.
Supposedly sourdough starter makes an amazing tempura batter for shrimp, so I've got that on the grocery list for this week. Yum.

GTFO!
oh - I agree with you - although I at least 'think about it' when I am eating them.........
Hey, me too. I think about how good carbs and starches are.

Messican 'za pre-toppings. Refried bean/salsa base, taco meat, cheese. Topped after with black olives, lettuce, tomato, crushed doritos, sour cream and more salsa.

Well, I just went all in. Ordered out a Banneton bread proofing basket with liner, a good wood handled lame (bread scoring knife) and a bread cutting knife that's rated best by America's Test Kitchen.
Gonna have sourdough coming out of my ears here shortly.
I did run across an interesting sourdough cookie recipe over the weekend. I may be trying that in the next few days here. Even though right now I've still got part of a loaf, half a dozen sourdough rolls and ten sourdough biscuits sitting at home. I just keep finding ways to use my starter rather than throw out the cast-offs. Maybe I'll just start putting my baked goods out by the street with a "take some, please" sign?

It is farkn tasty! It's a sweet bread with cardamom for flavoring. It's absolutely amazing when dunked in coffee.
Mmmmm.
I've got a sourdough scones recipe I've been sitting on that may get busted out this week. I was thinking of making them cinnamon, but cardamom could be an interesting take.

I guess, if you want bread that's not available in stores, there's only one way to get it but, FnA bro... it's way too much work!

Cheers Gary!!! Did you know that, before WWII, the British and Germans teamed up to help the Finns fight a Russian invasion during the Winter War of 1938-39?
