Yeah I've been reading some stuff on it, and apparently it's going to "block" used games as well. not sure how that's gonna work, but anyway. The "always on" schtick will kill it fo' sho'.
Sucks too, b/c I was just looking at some shots of Forza 5 and holy shite...

Hmmm, seeing as how I've never even hooked my 360 up to the internet, I don't think a 720 will be in my near future. Probably wouldn't have been anyway.

You have to pay to use XBL right? So, is XBL going to be free suddenly? Or are you going to have to have a monthly subscription fee just to use the machine you just spent hundreds on?

Brought to you by the fine company that thought they needed to rework the basic interface of an OS people had used for years.....excellent.

LOL ^^^ pretty much

not a great way to attempt to recoup some of that overall market share they had been doing

i mean are they fkng serious?? NOT being able to play used games? i guess Gamefly.com won't be stocking a lot of XBox One titles... lulz

What's funny is apparently microsoft really isn't thinking about all the times people use these systems when not in a place ideal for the internet. Tour busses, RVs, cabins, etc. Granted, its a tiny percent of the whole total sold, but by making it so that your system is no long even a viable OPTION for use in places where it can't be hooked up to XBL.....that's just dumb.

I do see what they are attempting to hamfistedly do. It just is doubtful they'll be able to make it work any better than previous attempts.

Wait...it's confirmed? I missed most of the press coverage, so I wasn't sure if it was mentioned. Looks like the Xbox One (stupid name) won't be winning the "console wars" this time.

Also, who's idea was it to make it look like a chunky VCR?

Yeah MS is usually pretty shrewd in some of their stuff, but this looks like a total swing-and-a-miss all ways around.

And is that the actual unit?? :freak: looks shit

holy shit

yeah, that used crap is just beyond stupid. hell, i remember when i could RENT PC games from Hastings (yes, Hastings lol) and install them and copy the CD for launch capabilities. all that's going to lead to is hacking the system and getting the RRoD all over again.

Murdoch wrote:Some clarifications:

Microsoft isn't REQUIRING "always online", but is leaving that option up to the game's publisher. Not the game's DEVELOPER, but the game's publisher. Big difference there. Think of it this way in terms of book publishing: They are charging roughly the same price for e-books that they do for hard cover books. Translation: Giving these games' publishers the option of DRM'ing the games means that more often than not, they will opt for it.

The system WILL play used games, but a fee will be charged for "secondary use" of the disc. Meaning that you give Gamestop your money for the used copy of the game, then you have give Microsoft extra $$$ for the system to permit the Xbox One to run the software on the disc.

So, while not as draconian as it initially seemed, this is still one huge goddamn fail on MS's part, IMO.

Interesting. Well, its not the total fail requiring it is...but the potential for fail is still huge on that front.

And charging secondary use fees for used games. Good luck with that.

Meh, even some things about the new PS didn't particularly sit well with me.

Even the current revamped PS store thing gives me the shits. It was pretty average before, and then they updated to a fancier looking piece of shit that runs even worse. I also don't really get the point of paying full price for a game or a movie that I then have to download when I could just buy the thing from a shop (often at a lower price) and have a hard copy of it (which I could sell later if I want to). :idk:

If this is where shit's headed, I imagine I'll be losing interest in consoles. :idk:

I hope no one at MS gets any bright ideas to change the 360 to work this way as well through an update.

Probably not, there would be law suits up the ass.

This interview with Jeff Henshaw is awesome. It clears everything up!

If by clearing up you mean "We don't know yet." "We're working on that." or "We have nothing to announce on that."

Yeah. Even though I've got my money safely tucked away, there's no way I'm standing in line on release day and buying one of these consoles right out of the gate. Give it a couple weeks to see how things turn out, make my decision then.
