specimen stuff is 'neat looking'. they use solid drivers. but yeah. no. way too millennial presh lumbersexual for my blood, and i don't own enough wingtips to be allowed to touch them. besides, i listen too loud for 6' drivers and the hand rubbed shellac would fall off.

I went through a rather extended high end stereo phase back in the '80s and '90s. I remember going to one high end show where some crazy Chinese guys brought a bunch of horn driver stuff that was designed to be powered by these single end class-A tube amps that maxed out at maybe 5 watts. Sounded like wet farts.

OTOH, the Wilson Audio room was effing amazing...but the Watt/Puppies were like $20,000 a pair in 1990 dollars. There was also some early DSP multichannel system that ran about $200,000, and sounded really good until the live band started warming up in the next ballroom over, and I realized that you could instantly hear the difference even through the airwall separating the hotel ballrooms. That was about when I stopped pursuing perfect sound. I haven't made a significant purchase for my system since.

oh man. badly implemented single ended is horrible. WELL implemented single ended is amazing.... but costs a bomb!

its all about finding a happy place i guess- and im 100% in agreement that nothing can touch live music no matter HOW much dough you spend!

these days i spend more time with cans and a good usb dac than speakers cause my days of scouring the earth for 6sn7s and quads of el34s are over, especially given as i barely have time to get through a full record anymore

Lol, I could never be bothered with tube stereo gear. I never wanted to have to deal with the tube replacement cycle and cost, and my preferences overall tend to the ruthlessly revealing side of things, not the lush.

My setup, which I kind of stopped purchasing in the early '90s except to replace SACD players when their transports inevitably fail, ran probably around $5500, so it's not total shit, but it's definitely not cork-sniffing quality by any means.
