What impresses me the most is that when you change velocity it won't just make it louder/quieter, but actually changes the sample to a one that was recorded with the intended velocity. You can also make your own kits with your own samples in the future.

This is really cool, and FREE?!?! I know SSD has different samples for different velocities as well. Ive been using that for so long and Im just used to it and like how it sounds, but I might give this a shot since its free and all...Im curious about what other drum sounds they have in it. I like that the sounds all seem pretty dry. I think that ultimately would let you do more with it in terms of mixing and adding FX and stuff.

Seems pretty cool yeah. I can't really figure out the gui with Reaper though. It won't load the plugin if you use the "add new vsti track" option, you need to open the plugin on an existing track. Even then I don't know how to make it play everything on separate tracks. Maybe because it refuses to load the midimap file for me.

I would just pop it onto a regular track. If you right click on the VST in the FX window, toward the bottom there will be an option that says "Build multichannel routing..." or something like that. I dont remember exactly since I just kinda do it on reflex these days...but that should pop the tracks into reaper for you. I dunno about mapping to them, since Ive had issues mapping Kontakt 5 to separate tracks, but doesnt really matter for kontakt because you can mix within kontakt itself.

The toms and cymbals sound pretty fantastic on this, really natural.

I figured out a way somehow to make it play everything on individual tracks, not perfect yet though.

EDIT: Ignore this unless the "build multichannel routing" doesn't work.

Add the plugin on an empty track. Load the xml files into the plugin. From the FX: Track 1 screen enable 16 outputs from the menu where you see a grid. Then add 16 new empty tracks.

Go to the track you have the plugin on, then click Route->Sends->Add sends to all tracks. Then (don't press play yet, it'll just automute the master track since it's playing 16 tracks of the same stereo track) put these settings to every track send:

Send to track 2:
Audio: 1=>1, Midi: 1=>1

Send to track 3:
Audio 2=>2 Midi: 2=>2


Send to track 4:
Audio 3=>3 Midi: 3=>3

etc.

Also on the plugin track, enable record and put track monitoring to Auto.

If anyone figures out a better way, please let me know?

that seems pretty decent. Sounds like the kit in the vid was very raw. I happen to like that. I find that SSD / SD2.0 / EZD are great but are to processed so I can't make them sound more "live"..unless there's a trick.

There seems to be purposeful mic bleed on almost every track, it definitely gives more of a live sound to it.

I'm in. downloading now, gonna try it out when i have some time to really delve in deep.

Yeah, for some reason the 16 tracks of midi routing thing has never worked for me. Maybe if I load the VSTi on a midi track that will work? I dunno. With Slate, Ive always done the build multichannel routing. Adds a couple of extra tracks, but I just delete those, so who cares. Great to hear that it worked!! I might give it a shot tonight or this weekend.

I also like that the drums sound raw...and yeah, I noticed the mic bleed all over the place, too. Interesting. I really like Slate for ease and simplicity, though. The All American kit, I've found, sounds pretty fucking phenomenal as is.

I've been tweaking for a while now. You definitely need to treat these like you would real acoustic drums, ie. add gate, eq, compression, etc. to the tracks to make them sit in the mix properly.

I don't know if these would work or not, but I found it nice for setting up MIDI drums in Reaper... This guy went through the trouble to make it easy to understand how to setup MIDI drums.

Seems that way. Thats what I was alluding to earlier. But that could be a good or bad thing depending on what you want.

yea, those are kind of a double edged sword. Its great if you are trying to learn/practice how to mix actual drum tracks, but if you don't know what you're doing it can start sounding really poopy real quick. I prefer that kind of plugin because it gives me the most control on how i want the drums to sound post-production.

I use Blue Noise's free 'My Drumset' plugin, which is now the beta version of their 'Drum Mix' plugin. if you can mix raw drums in a mix, these are perfect.

Yeah these wouldn't be my choise for quick rough draft demos, superior drummer works better for that. But for any type of serious recording/mixing these sound great, toms and cymbals in particular sound way better than ez or sd.
