Question for my fellow 420ers and/or allergy sufferers

When I was younger, if I smoked my allergies went crazy. Basically my sinuses would get very congested and I would become a phlegm/mucus factory.
Now I am in my 40's and have wicked insomnia, and I smoke to help me sleep. It no longer makes my allergies go into high gear. Surprisingly, if I stop smoking for a few days, then my allergies go into high gear and I become a phlegm/mucus factory. When I start smoking again, my allergies calm down. WTF!
Can anyone explain this to me? It makes no sense to me that 20-25 years ago smoking would trigger an allergy attack, but now NOT smoking triggers allergy attacks and smoking helps alleviate said allergy attack.
I'm hoping someone who understands how allergies work might be able to make sense of the whole situation.

A good friend of mine who constantly blazed daily suddenly developed an allergy to it a few years ago. Oddly enough it only happens when its flower; he can still hit vapes and edibles all day.
So I guess weird shit like that does happen...

I don’t know about allergies but I also experience problems when I don’t smoke up. For example, my Foghat records don’t sound nearly as good. Crazy.

buds = pollen I would think it's not good for allergy sufferers , it's much like ragweed in terms of it's pollen and also has a # of other known allergens .

you make a very good point , if it's oldschool "import" and of unknown origin you may be puffing chems with your flower .
