I remember a feud between HCAF and a mod by the name of actionsquid or something like that. Not sure if he was from OJ or another subforum.

That name kinda rings a bell but he wasn't from OJ. MrKnobs was the OJ mod.

All these stories check out.
He and I started off with a couple months of vehement opposition. He kept merging the off topic political and religious conversations into these mondo uni-threads comprising 15 different conversations, all jumbled out of order, so nobody could keep track of what anybody was saying to anyone … which severely honked me (and a couple others, to be fair) off, as we had been accustomed to self-regulating and actually enjoyed those lively, spirited religio-political discourses. Er.
But somehow, through the magick of the innarwebz, Darian and I eventually became friends and now he's one of my favorite online peeps. Prolly because I gave myself tendinitis and couldn't do those monster thread-posts anymore!

I can't imagine having to moderate HC... it was a different time though. Forums were HOT.
Now it's just where old guys who are stuck in the 70's - 90's hang out.

What made it even more … let's call it "challenging" … to the moderators who came in was that for years, especially before the sale to Musician's Fiend, the forums had been "self-moderating." Read: unmoderated. So the sudden imposition of moderators/moderation on top of the already existent culture in those forums was just a formula for whackiness.

open jam and the political forums were so bad that if Zentdown, IndianScout or Meganeck90210 would have started posting there they would have immediately been upgraded to moderator.

That would have been around 2010ish? I think they took issue with us making our own rage comic memes as they saw it as being their thing.
