Vinyl prices?

So went on a mini vacation with the wife a few weeks back. Did my usual of stopping in at junk shops, gear stores and music stores. Passed on a Mark III (I think it was a III) half stack in creme tolex (sooooooo sexy looking

) and a Mark III combo of some sort. No way to get it home as the carryon rates are a little high for a small suitcase let alone a half stack
Went into one particular vinyl store. The prices on this stuff was f*****g INSANE
I grew up a metalhead and collected all the vinyl and picture discs I could afford. Not sure if the market is like this everywhere; but I must have (at least) thousands of dollars of vinyl in crates at home if these prices were actual selling prices. 3rd reissue Slayer albums from 2008 for $70? Yeah; I have the originals from 1988 thank you. All sorts of stuff I have at home, on the original pressing run, not some reissue. Crazy stuff. Anyone priced out their vinyl collection as of late?

Sell that stuff while the going is hot.
I don't understand the obsession with vinyl, and I'm all about stupid, outdated, old timey stuff.
I know in SOME cases, it sounds better, but I don't have time or money to make a setup that sounds great. Nor do I have time to flip the damn thing every 20 minutes. Gosh, I hate vinyl.
I still think CD's on a good 80's/90's stereo sound as good as anything.

I've thought about it a time or 5. I never listen to it and am old enough where I give zero f**ks about it's cool factor right now

Biggest prohibiting factor is just the sheer amount of work it would take to move it to maximize my return.

Damn right. That's how I feel about everything. Might as well let it sit there.

Selling some pedals from time to time is one thing. Listing 200+ albums individually and dealing with payment, packaging, shipping, blah blah blah? Screw that noise

No, They'll be like "MMMM, this was when Heimrich Grubowitz owned the waffenspiel studio. They were using der Mauser tape machine."

Just registered at Discogs.com

If I got all the high end prices for what I have; um, uh; that would be a serious windfall

man, i WISH it were just vinyl, but it's kinda everything. cheap shit i bought in the 90's is now collector crap.
i collected records for years- a) 'cause it was cheaper. b) cause it sounded good. c) cause i know how to align a turntable, and d) cause i have the stereo worth playing it through.
NOW.. shits ridiculously overpriced-- and having just pressed vinyl for my band, it cost about $12 a pop to MAKE the damn things.
i still have about 1000 records, and i suspect none of it's going anywhere. but holy sheez. yeah.. collector scum ruin everything in EVERY avenue.

Posted this question elsewhere and found out about Discogs.com. They have an official app that allows you to scan your album barcodes into your phone, build your own database and sell accordingly. Slick as f looking

Got a buddy who collects 78's and has a wind up Victrola with a 10 lb swing arm/needle that eats records.
I remember conversing, with JiveTurkey, about a punk rock record show that I attended last year... sold all my old vinyl and made $1400 in 5 hours!
Just about all my records were sold to the other dealers, for $5 to $40 each and they were planning on reselling them for what ever they could get.
I had Motorhead's No Remorse 3 album set in a leather sleeve - sold it for $40 and I'm sure it got resold for over $100.
I didn't want to bother posting them on eBay or Reverb and mailing them out so, even if I got 1/4 of what the dealers resold them for, I was happy.
Still, I don't get the high prices either

This makes no sense to me. It cost pennies to manufacture vinyl records for nearly a century, WTF?

oh nah-- the printing and pressing wasn't that much-- it was the 'break even' price for recording, that stuff, plus mastering, and we did it way on the cheap with pressing in the czech republic. i'm just sayin'-- it's still a lot more than pressing a cd, and it costs some scratch to git r' dun.. but i spose the threads more about collectors than modern pressing costs..
