Bugera 333xl 2x12 combo speaker swap

I'm currently sitting on stock bugera speakers which are just not my cup of tea. I think they are great for playing classic rock but heavier stuff is just mush. There is no definition in the low end. My friend has a Randall with Celestion seventy 80's that I think sound great and I though about getting a pair then I read on a forum and it seems everybody hates these. Then I thought about Sheffield, kind of exclusive to peavey amps and I wondered if anybody thought of it before. I looked online and I heard a bugera 333xl head through a 5150 cab it sounded great to me. What do y'all think? I have been scratching my head. I want speakers with tight low, semi scooped mids and high attack.

Sounds like you want G12T75s.

Based on your last sentence in the OP I agree with KBizzle’s recommendation above.

Though I would also look into whatever Peavey threw in the XXX cabs as it will also be the matched speaker for your amp. They might be Sheffields, but try to find out.

Either way the G12T-75 speaker is gonna be super easy to find at an affordable price.

I know this may seem counter intuitive but I don't like the 75's I don't know what it is I like the vintage 30's though. And I hear the 6505 cabs are loaded with v-30's. If they aren't I'd like to know what they are. I can't find aspec sheet on a Sheffield 1200 anywhere. Just the Sheffield 12 pro which is a pa speaker. If anybody knows I'd like to know the freq range and have a spectrogram of the Sheffield 1200.

I'm not real sure what's different there the 30's are basically the same as the 75's except the 75's have slightly less mids but something just doesn't sound right about them to me I can't put my finger on it. It might be that the v 30's have a 10hz greater range I have no clue.

It doesn’t sound crazy but i’ll Just say that you can’t write off any celestion until you’ve heard with with the amp you’re using at the time. I’ll never say “I don’t like X Celestion” because there have been some that I thought I hated and then one day I’m playing some new amp and loving the tone and asking what speakers are paired and it’s the ones I thought I hated.

I’m selling a Randall XL 4x12 with WGS British Lead 80’s that are very similar to CL80’s, which aside from the K85/K100 are the only celestions I’m aware of that have a flattened mid.

No no I am listening to these from multiple sources before I open my mouth and I definately prefer the v30 to the 75. I'm not saying I hate the 75. Just trying to find my tone. I wish peavey wasn't so stingy with their speakers it's like they want to make money off their product or something. You want information you have to talk to a tech. You want replacements you have to go to them it's ridiculous. I really Sheffield speakers I just need more info on them before I follow through. And everybody seems to think that the triple xxx ( so xxxxxxxxx) speaker is more v30's yet I see a made in USA on the back and I thought v30's were made in england

I've listened to multiple celestions last night including the cl80 and I still prefer the v30. The v30 is my favorite speaker by Celestion

The evm12l was definitely a good suggestion I feel like it's a bit brighter than what I'm looking for. I'm kinda glad I didn't fall in love with it because I can't drop $500 on speakers

So you want scooped mids but like the V30?
 Good luck with that.

Yeah the v30's sound good to me I said I wanted scooped mids not no mids. V30s have slightly scooped mids and maybe I was wrong before I don't know. I'm gonna mix a v30 and a Sheffield 1200 because I can't decide which one I like.

V30s definitely do not have scooped mids.

What I'm saying is what you're saying you like/don't like does not mesh with what you're saying you want.

Going off your OP G12T75s hit that and V30s definitely do not, thats all I'm saying.

Also I've used V30s with this amp, do not recommend.
WAY too much mid range honk going on.

Ive already ordered a Sheffield 1200 and a v30 to mix. it'll be interesting to see what happens. Whichever one I like better I'm gonna get another one to make a set if mixing doesn't go well. I've heard the Sheffield is more like a t75 and that t75s mix well with v30s I'm interested in the the frequency range I think sheffields are supposed to be like 60 to 6000hz, t75s are 80 to 5000hz. V30s are 70 to 5000hz. That higher end on the Sheffield is probably the fizz people talk about which may not be so bad mixed with a middy v30

Do what you gotta do man. Stick with whatever hits you in the feels. Forget about technical shit. Hz’s and whatnots.

Also this.

I had a variety of speakers when I had my 333 years ago including a V30/T75 mix though this was in a closed back 4x12.
YMMV but I think you'll find V30s with that amp a little grating and probably prefer the Sheffields.

Who ever said I wouldn't like the v30 was right. It is a great speaker just not what I wanted. I put the Sheffield model 1200 in last night it was spot on. I couldn't tell a lot of difference between it and the stock on clean side but when I switched to my gain channel it was so much tighter. It's great I ordered another one and I'm putting in a full set.

Glad you found a speaker you like!

You can listen to clips on the internet and read up on speaker specs until you're blue in the face, but until you have a chance to actually play your rig through that particular speaker it's really anyone's guess whether you will truly like it or not.

Also, as was mentioned before, you may not like a certain speaker with your particular amp, but it's entirely possible you might love the speaker with another amp.

Tons of variables involved!

True however there are certain things to think of.

Mid heavy amp (like this 333) will probably not go well with mid heavy speaker (V30).
Reverse is true as well, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about if you've ever played a Dual Rec through a 1960 with T75s.
