Passive pairs are $289 at sweetwater.

I kinda want them.

When I was looking for a pair of small, near field monitors, I took a look at Mixcubes but, I went for Mackie CR3 instead.

Mixcubes = 90Hz-17kHz $298 passive, you need a poweramp.
CR3 = 80-20000 Hz $80 active, no need for an external poweramp.

Eventually, I'll get a larger pair of monitors but, I just wanted something to give me a break from using headphones.
I was really surprised by how good the Mackies sounded especially since they were only equipped with 3" speakers.

Still, I wouldn't mind having a pair of Mixcubes.

mix cubes were originally intended to be a reference for the typical crap playback system , like a car with 6x9's . They are still designed to be that reference and not polish it like a studio monitor or reference playback system . I would put the monies elsewhere and build a super cheap lowfi playback or run it out to the car or better yet Grandmas car :)

Good point.

I feel like buying more fuzz pedals that only take batteries. I'm on a kick.
