FTFY, and I say that as someone who would not benefit from that being the case, and in fact would probably have to pay higher taxes in order to make it happen.

Our current and future healthcare system is a joke. Greed has ruined us. I agree w the op statement and also would not benefit from it.

sales tax, gas tax, medicare tax, social security tax, state tax, city tax, federal tax, etc...

the return on all the numerous taxes we pay is pathetic. i am not complaining per say on having to pay taxes, i just feel we should be getting more for our money. the er should not be a doctors office for lower income families. fraud and corruption have driven costs to a point that is killing the system.

Whoa, are you serious? You mean he shouldn't consider that income that was taken from him? Or are you saying that at tax time that specific dollar amount may or may not be what gets paid to the government? If he does get it back, it was an interest free loan to Uncle Sam.

Why shouldn't everyone get the ability to deduct their medical expenses?

Insert populist answer here.

hahaha sheeple :cop:

actually your itemized deductions are going to be the future of tax hikes, along with lowering student loan interest deductions, credits/deductions for retirement/savings, all that sorta stuff. it's a WAY easier sell to the teeming uninformed mass of "taxpayers" from a political standpoint than "higher rates" which a lot of the time don't matter nearly as much unless your income like, increases dramatically which for most it doesn't annually. the AMT limitation already did, or is going down to $75k for Single taxpayers- so, if you're single and make over $75k a year and have a house w/ mortgage interest, pay taxes, give away some $$, you'll more than likely get hit with AMT. yep, great way to get people on board with the whole "recovery" thing

the healthcare AGI limitation is going UP already to 10% for 2013, so if you couldn't qualify before, you sure as hell aren't gonna now. it's sad and pathetic but people are ignorant so they don't know bc it doesn't "affect them" and when it does, it's already way too late. mortgage interest and property taxes are next, without question.

however, being a single non-poverty-line professional, yes, being Single and filing is a bunch of horseshit. you sell taxes to the ignorant because we need more $$ for "stuff". well wait a second, i use LESS STUFF than everybody else, why should i pay more than people married and 2-5 kids?

anyway, close to home topic for RSBro but whatevs :cop:

:soapbox:

i'm doing a NY State Income Tax return right now. fuck, NY state, and CA state, in their collective assholes. that is all lol.

It is withholding.....withheld from my paycheck to pay state and federal taxes. I only get a small amount of that back at tax time.

So its a tax on income earned. He may have never physically had possession of it, but it was his. It is a tax.

If he was self employed, he would have to write a check for that exact amount x 2. The mechanism doesn't make it any less of a tax.

People come into the ER with a headache and are admitted and then sent for an MRI, cardiology test, EEG test, bloodwork and a hospital stay for several days. Oh and they are on Medicaid. I see it everyday its a fucking joke. Mostly drug seekers looking for prescription drugs
