I get it, you don't like Eddies voice. He doesn't sing the same on every song for the last 7 albums. :horse:

But they are humble guys who stand up for what they believe, play kickass rock, are total gearheads and use alot of vintage gear. They play with their idols and have an extremely loyal fan base whom they care about. They took on Ticketmaster for being greedy fucks, and they pretty much influenced a generation of guitarists. They do a tremendous amount for political awareness and quite a few charities, and pretty much kept their lineup the same (sans early drummers) for the last 25 years. They promote new artists and have been keeping the flame alive for Seattle along with Soundgarden and AIC. I remember the first time I saw their cd in a Sam Goodys record store and it changed my life and guitar style for the better.

Some of my favorites

I saw them on the 10 tour. Opened for the Pumpkins (Siamese Dream) and RHCP (BSSM) tour. Amazing concert. They were on fire. Vedder was doing the whole climb the curtains jump from the speakers schtick and it was bada$$.

To be honest; this is usually the kind of bloaty classic rock inspired stuff that I (like Pablo) ABSOLUTELY LOATHE. That disclaimer aside; there is indeed some really good rock stuff on those first few records.

I still listen to Ten, Lightning Bolt, Backspacer and Lost Dogs. I'm kinda through with the rest.

I loved Ten for about a month. But in 1991 there was already so much great music happening, that I soured on it quickly.

Vs. is actually their one album I really dig. But Eddies voice is nails on the chalkboard for me. Not to mention, as a young cynic I felt a perpetual urge to tell him to STFU and stop whining about everything.

I don't have a problem with them. Ten was great and the self titled album with the avocado on it is a pretty kick ass rock n roll album. Those dudes always have great tone too.

I want to say I have VS. on vinyl at home. Not really sure why? I know I dug some songs on it :idk:

I know the point where I realized a growing hatred was when I listened to a song of theirs in the first 3, 4 albums where there was accordion or something equally as annoying

Did a quick Google search and found this song off Vitalogy which makes sense in my timeline

I realize now it's a song designed to annoy  It did it's job quite nicely at the time. And now :bang: I realize it doesn't speak for their entire discography :cop: it just drove me to point of madness at the time where it was an immediate write-off.

They need to get back to that Ticketmaster fight because the fees are still stupid

If you watch the documentary "The Decline and Fall of The Upper Crust", drummer Jackie Kickassiss will regail you with the story of how he was the original pick for Pearl Jam's replacement of Dave Abruzee. But alas, after seeing them perform that night in Boston, he turned them down because he felt their whole schtick was "fake".

He certainly regrets this.

They basically became the Grateful Dead while I wasn't looking. They're completely off my radar to the point that every couple years I'll forget they're even still a band, and then I'll see they were the fourth biggest grossing live act of the summer. :idk:

They have always come off as smart and principled, and Vedder didn't seem any more comfortable with rock stardom than Kurt Cobain did - only less personally fucked up. Considering that the meathead bro rock of the ensuing decade (and really, even up to now) was basically a mashup of their early sound and Alice in Chains, I'm not surprised they willfully dropped off the mainstream radar and embraced being either the world's quietest rock start, or most visible underground band, depending on how you see it.

Much respect to Pearl Jam.

I dislike 95% of their music.

Thats cool that you can appreciate a band like that. :thu:

They are not for everybody, I can understand that. I've always been against the grain when it comes to bands all my life. Hell, I don't like 95% of the bands named here, Nobody really likes what I like and I'm fine with that. But some bands you have to respect what they do.

It's funny that Vedder wrote "Better Man" before Pearl Jam and never brought it to them because he thought the song was too hokey/poppy for their sound. Now it's one of their biggest hits. I read this on the liner notes of the Lost Dogs album. I also love Vedder's description of a song Matt Cameron wrote, "In the Moon Light", the same liner notes. He said that every time Matt writes a songs for them, they have to frantically find bar stools to stand on in a foolish attempt to get on his songwriting level

I've always been a Pearl Jam fan. Glad to see them in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

What I find fascinating is that people actually give a shit about the rock n roll hall of fame.

Who fucking cares?

The first 3 PJ records fucking rule. Period.

They are incredible performers. I love that they never play the same set and always throw in unexpected stuff. Young Eddie was a madman on stage and it was awesome. Saw them a couple years ago and they still killed it. Never got into the other albums but those first 3 solidify them for me.

I am not sure anyone "cares" as much as they like seeing the groups they dig get recognized :idk: Whether it's a sham/crock of sh!t or not. I also find it weird when people complain about rappers getting inducted :wank:

That and, in a lot of cases, it's hoping that a band whose members are long-estranged (and/or dying off quickly) will see it as a good enough reason to perform together one last time, or at the very least, stand on a stage together and be civil for a few minutes. It's interesting to see the artists who do extend some sort of olive branch (e.g. Paul Simon) and those who don't (e.g. John Fogerty, at CCR's induction, performing with Bruce Springsteen and Robbie Robertson while his surviving bandmates walked out).

It may not mean shit to you (it doesn't to me), but it clearly means something to almost all of the artists.

Except the Sex Pistols.

As cheesy as they are considered to be; I cannot overstate enough how much I wanted to see Steve Perry sing with Journey. I don't care about RRHoF AT ALL but to see that reunion would have been

Was there any reason given for him not singing? Can he no longer sing the songs?

Supposedly his voice isn't there anymore. If you heard any of the clips of their current singer (who Perry gave props to and was an absolute class act to during his speech); he wasn't quite hitting things either :idk: People bag on Journey and I get it; but those songs are hard to sing. Schon, whilst being creepy from time to time; is no slouch either.

I saw Journey last summer at a big 4th of July stadium event. I posted here about it at the time and won't rehash all the details (available here), but the relevant point to this thread is that Arnel Pineda was great. He put his own spin on some of the vocals, and was much more of a "respectful interpreter" than "Steve Perry impressionist," but there were no moments where I thought he had changed a part just because he couldn't hit Steve's notes. All the songs were in studio key and he nailed everything. :idk:

Weird that he's fallen off in such a short time. Assuming he's still the Journey vocalist. I didn't watch the ceremony so if it's someone else, please ignore me.
