Oh, man. Having lived in Houston for five years, I can tell you there is such an undercurrent of resentment for those smartypants liberal college kid hippie politically correct sumbitches among a certain segment of the population, that I bet you there were people cheering at that tweet. Probably a lot of them.

Well...

A Certain guy in the white house ordered it closed but a bunch of old white dudes who control the purse strings won't appropriate any funds to get that done.

Good friend of mine is a company commander. He's taking a grunt company back to Afghanistan here fairly shortly. Keeps bugging me to re-up and go.

Unfortunately, the Douchery is strong with the GOP these days. Once the Republicans were a great (Moderate) party who weren't predominately batshit crazy.

Now... not so much...

The only good things done by repubs since 1970 is the creation of the EPA (Nixon) and The Americans With Disabilities Act (fist Bush). Typo intentional.

Yep, Nixon (nor Reagan, for that matter) would stand a chance of getting their nomination for president today. That party has shifted waaaaaaaaaaaaay to the right in the past few decades, and it's largely due to them pandering to conservative Evangelicals. It was a conscious decision.

The Republican Party of my youth and early adulthood was a worthy and necessary adversary to my far-left leanings: they stood for fiscal responsibility, personal responsibility, toughness on crime, national defense, etc. These days they seem mostly concerned with fellating big business and being mean to gay people. :idk:

QFT. My grandparents were hardcore republicans and I agreed with most of their principles. What I didn't know at the time was that they were major recipients of corporate welfare, as they were farmers receiving subsidies for most, if not all of their crops. They also were paid by the government to let sections of their land sit idle to reduce their production and increase prices of their commodities. Free markets, lol.

Less hyperbolic when you put it that way. :cop:

But it doesn't work that way in reality, no matter what side of the isle you sit on. Reagan doesn't define the GOP (or any conservative for that matter) any more than Barack Obama defines the Democrat Party.
